How To Survive a Hurricane with Pizza and Kurt Russell- An Oct DR *Complete

By the time we got to MK it was around 11am. The 45th anniversary celebration was just a few days before, which sadly we missed, but they still had the decorations up.

And Halloween decorations were up! Love it!

And now it's time to stop for a must do. A Main Street selfie!

And Rob stopped to try and pull the sword from the stone. My hero!

We rode Haunted Mansion with a FP then met up with my SIL and her fiancé who had been there since 9:30. We rode the People Mover together and Little Mermaid together then they left. We used our last FP on POTC and Rob stopped for a Dole Whip. The CM here was so rude that it threw me off and I didn't even get a pic. I was kinda over it from our mixed up plans and we left at 2pm as the sky was getting dark.

Good timing because it started pouring as soon as we got under cover for the bus.

Back at the resort we waited out the rain for a couple hours then headed for Poly around 4:30 for our evening plans. I totally didn't realize the bus stop at the Marketplace area was closed, so we found the new stop down in the Springs shopping area, which was so big and different and it totally threw me off. I love it, but it's so different there now.

Now we come to the best part. As we are on the bus to Poly I am looking at Instagram and my fav Disney Gramer posts that the Hitchhiking Ghost Tiki mugs are finally available today at Trader Sam's. Wow! I was dying to get my hands on one of these after I saw the pics from the release at the Trader Sam's in CA but I thought I would not get lucky enough to be here in FL if and when they released them here. Not only was I here at WDW, but I'm on the bus, headed to Poly, to go to Trader Sam's. The Luck!

I am totally freaking out and passed my excitement on to Rob, who was now also freaking out. We get to Poly and two people literally go running past us into the lobby. What if they are in a rush to get in and get this mug we said as we laughed. Then we got serious and started running too. We get to the hallway by Captain Cook's and it is a MASSIVE line for Trader Sam's. We wait in the line and they say we have to put our name in to come in and buy the mug. That's fine. We were planning on hitting Tambu Lounge and then going to TS anyway. The worry was that they only had 200 mugs. Would we get one? They were out of pagers at this point so we had to keep running down to check our place in line and try to get a pager. We were given a wait time of 90-120 minutes. We were in for a long night.

We waited our or wait at Tambu Lounge. Fortunately we got two seats at the bar. Rob started with his favorite, the Smoked Turkey. Barf. He loves it though.

I got the Island Sunset. Seven Tiki Spiced Rum, PARROT BAY Coconut Rum, melon and peach combined with our guava-passion fruit juice.

We also got the pork sliders with Kona Coffee Barbecued Pork topped with slaw.

Rob finally scored a pager on his trip down to check on the line.

Then Rob got his second favorite drink now that he was able to relax with the pager in hand. Lapu Lapu time!

My SIL arrived around 6:30, so I let them take my place at the bar and I went downstairs to stalk my place in the line. I struck up a conversation with others waiting in line. Everyone was a local or CM but me it seemed. I was in the know! When I finally got back up to the front of the line to check my place we were next! So I text them to settle the bill and come on down. We got into Trader Sam's just before 7pm.

We got a pretty good spot along the wall and the four of us ordered our special Fog Cutter.

No clue what was in this drink or what fruit that eyeball was made out of. The fruit was good, but the drink was strong and kinda gross, but who cares, we got a glass! They were $30 each. Yikes! Totally worth it though.

Isn't it awesome?! I was THRILLED! Seriously thrilled. And so was Rob. He didn't even know about this thing before 4:30 that day, but I got him caught up in the excitement.

The only bummer here was that we had been talking this place up to my SIL and no one, I mean no one, was ordering anything but Fog Cutters and then cutting out. So, since there were no specialty drinks being ordered but this there were no extra theatrics. Naturally, Rob had to ensure she got the full experience, so he ordered a Hippopoto-Mai-Tai and she ordered sushi and a Krakatoa. We provided the only theatrics in there!

Next we were off to the only ADR we made this trip. My SIL loved the luau the last time she did it, Rob had never done it and I was 10 the last time I went there, so we decided to book the Spirit of Aloha dinner show for this night prior to the trip.

After we settled up at Trader Sam's it was getting close to the start time for the luau and we joined the line to check in for the luau in the lobby. It was a massive line and it took awhile to get out to the show.

They took our pic before we went it. We all agreed this pic made us all look fat and we hate it, but its the only pic we have of the four of us, so here you go.

We were finally seated allllll the way in the back of the room at about the last free table in the place.

I hated this. I felt stuffed in here and I couldn't see anything the whole time. Not off to a great start, but at least there is food!

The menu, which was not even right. It said ribs, but tonight they had short ribs instead. And the online menus showing bread pudding now show a cake. Okay, we'll see.

The roles, noodles and salad were my favorite part. I had two plates of this.

Our main course of chicken, rice, veggies, pork and short ribs.

The pork and chicken were okay put the short ribs were all fat and disgusting! So gross! I had to spit into my napkin twice before giving up on them entirely.

Then comes dessert.

This was about the plainest thing possible.

We left the theater before the fire dancers even came out. I was so hot and uncomfortable the whole time. This was such a huge disappointment for us. Rob didn't dislike it quite as much as me, but he didn't like it either.

So, the main draw here is the endless wine and beer. I was so hot and uncomfortable and I stuck with water, so I didn't get my money's worth. Rob had a couple drinks and my SIL and her fiancé... let's just say they got their money's worth. And my money's worth. And the next table's money's worth. I can laugh about it now, but the bus ride back to the Springs was very awkward. It only exacerbated how annoyed I was by the less than stellar meal. Yikes. It was unpleasant to say the least.

On the plus side we LOVE our tiki mugs! It was the only saving grace on the day. The rest of the day just felt like a waste of time and money. Our Kona breakfast took the whole morning, we couldn't ride anything but People Mover in MK without a FP, it was rainy and nasty all afternoon and the luau was a total bust.

Now we have to get back to the reason we came here. Springs and F&W! That will get us back on track. :thumbsup2

Wow! I love the updates but what a bummer of a day. I guess it just goes to show that can happen even in our magical escape world...

Before we left Poly we stopped at Kona Island for my favorite pastry treat ever. Cheese Pinwheel! Heaven!
Never even heard of this before! I will have to put this on my "to try" list. Is it like a cheese Danish?

The CM here was so rude that it threw me off and I didn't even get a pic.
Not to belabor the negativity but what happened here? It's interesting to me that despite rain, illness, family drama, etc the most upsetting experiences we've had at WDW were when we encountered grumpy CMs. Thankfully that has been very very few and far between but I think it just strikes you as even more odd when everyone else is so upbeat.

They took our pic before we went it. We all agreed this pic made us all look fat and we hate it, but its the only pic we have of the four of us, so here you go.
:rotfl2: Well that was kind of you to share it anyway. Sorry to hear the luau was such a bust but I am SO JEALOUS you got the hitchhiking ghosts tiki mug! I collect tiki mugs anyway and that one is absolutely adorable. What luck to get the news while on your way to the poly anyway!

Looking forward to your next updates and crossing my fingers that your next day of vacation was all good vibes after this day's clouds!

Whenever I read your posts, I'm amazed that you guys are SO PATIENT. All that waiting...that's a whole lotta nope. I really envy how fancy free you guys are with your trips. I get so hangry...it's not a pretty sight.

With our next trip being off DDP with hardly any ADR's (except Florida Kitchen WHOOP), I'll be interested to see if I like spontaneous lounge/CS/Snack dining more.

We tried Raglan Road in October and loved it as well, the burger was so delicious. I thought security and bag check at MK has really become a hot crowded mess! No matter what time we were there it was packed! Love the Hitchhiking ghosts tiki mug, awesome score for you! We will be staying at the Poly in August and have tossed around the luau but I have seen many negative reviews and we are going to pass on it. Patience is a virtue at WDW for sure lol!

Before we left Poly we stopped at Kona Island for my favorite pastry treat ever. Cheese Pinwheel! Heaven!

How did I not know about these!? This is a must have for my next trip!

Love that you got the Tiki Cup! Jealous, but happy for you! LOL

Very sorry to hear about your Spirit of Aloha experience. We went many, may years ago! I think DH was 9 or 10. I remember enjoying it but had no great desire to go back. Guess I am not missing anything!

I laugh when I see Robs fav turkey drink! You are so right that thing is barf!!! :lmao: He does always get that.

So disappointed to read & see Spirit! We did Spirit years ago & the food was sooo much better,I can tell by the looks of yours, that it wasn't good. I added a pic of what it used to look like.

Thankfully you got the cup you set out for,yay for that!!!!!:woohoo:

It was weirdly a bummer of a day, but at least I got my tiki mug!

It is so good! It is very much like a cheese danish, but way better!!!!

So, I could not figure out before we left if the poison apple mugs were available all the time or only during MNSSHP. I asked someone that day at Gaston's Tavern if they were available and she said not there, but to try Adventureland. Cool! When we stopped to get a Dole Whip I asked that CM if he knew if they were available there and he seriously lectured me. "That's ONLY for party guests. If you ARE going to the party then you have to wait until FOUR O'CLOCK to get a WRISTBAND. Once I see your WRISTBAND and we are actually SET UP for the party you may purchase one as a PARTY GUEST ONLY." Like, dud I was asking cause I didn't know. I'm not trying to steal one out of Mickey's hands for goodness sakes. He was just overall miserable too and very short with Rob when he ordered. It was just so unnecessary when I was asking a question I did not know the answer to.

 You know, sometimes you just need unflattering pics of yourself on the internet to keep you humble. That's so cool that you collect tiki mugs! I really want the Star Wars tiki mugs I keep seeing online, but I have more cups than I know what to do with. It was super lucky timing with the whole thing. It was fun to be a part of the craziness!

 They may be the first time I have ever heard myself described as patient. Maybe I'm more patient than I realize. Oh, I feel you on getting angry. It has been known to happen. Being spontaneous is kinda fun! Rob actually requested a more structured trip next time though, so I have a lot of ADRs planned out for our January trip.

Yay for RR! It's one of our new favorites for sure. Those bag check lines stress me out. I hate packed crowds like that. And Rob always abandons me and walks in with no bag. I wish I could condense enough to not have a bag, but I can't do it. How exciting that you will be staying at Poly! I do not recommend the luau! Especially in the August heat. Nope, nope nope.

How did I not know about these!? This is a must have for my next trip!

Love that you got the Tiki Cup! Jealous, but happy for you! LOL

You must try the cheese pinwheel! Amazing!

 I got a lot of direct messages on Instagram that night trying to buy my tiki mug. The jealousy was real!

I remember liking the luau as a kid, but I was not fond of this experience. It was so bad that it's one of those things I would probably never even attempt to try again.

Love your reviews

Thank you!:goodvibes

I laugh when I see Robs fav turkey drink! You are so right that thing is barf!!! :lmao: He does always get that.

Thankfully you got the cup you set out for,yay for that!!!!!:woohoo:

:rotfl2: I have no clue how he likes that drink. Or how it's even still on the menu.

Yeah, your food looks way better. This was nasty! I could eat the salad and noodles and not much else. Yuck! But like you said, yay for the cup!!! If not for our Spirit ressie I might not have been at Poly that night.

The next morning we set out for Epcot for lots of F&W yummies! I just love the way the park looks for F&W!

Today they were filming The Chew while we were there.

We might my SIL and her fiancé there around 10am. They were only staying until the afternoon and then had their flight home. It was a short trip for them. We all rode Soarin' together with our FP and then Living with the Land. By then the booths were open and it was time to eat!

We started out in China.

Rob and I both got the Strawberry Plum Wine Cooler.

This was my favorite thing from the whole festival! It was so light and refreshing with a great strawberry flavor. It was so hot out that I said I just wanted someone to follow me around all day with an ice cold vat of this stuff and continuously refill my cup. So good!

I also got the Sichuan Spicy Chicken.

This was really good! Fried breading and a little bit of heat. Perfect with my drink too!

Next I stopped at South Korea.

Here I got the Korean-style BBQ Beef with Steamed Rice and Cucumber Kimchi.

The BBQ was excellent and went well with the rice. The cucumber wasn't my thing though.

Then we stopped at the next booth, Africa.

Rob got the Berbere-style Beef Tenderloin Tips. He really enjoyed this dish.

I got the Buttered Chicken with Micro Cilantro and Naan Bread.

I did not care for this at all. The flavor was good and I liked the sauce with the naan bread, but the chicken was sooooo dry. Not my favorite.

And while we were sitting down to eat our food we spotted our good buddy Remy in the Outpost.

We made our way around WS a little further. You gotta love this view!

Next Rob stopped at Germany.

Here he got a Brat and a glass of white wine. He loves Brats. I am not a fan. And I REALLY hate mustard, so this one was a pass for me.

Fun day so far!

Next we stopped at Japan.

We found Remy here as well! Cooking with some garlic.

Rob decided to try the two things I wanted, but was too full to try.

He got the Garlic Shrimp.

And the Pineapple Breeze Sake Cocktail.

I was not expecting the drink to be green! He did not like either of these. Glad I didn't try them!

I decided I had a little bit of room left and stopped at Morocco.

I got the Chocolate Baklava, with was incredible! I love baklava and this was one of the best I have ever had.

Next we all stopped at Rose & Crown.

Rob got a beer.

I got some water cause it was HOT! And my SIL and her fiancé each got a shot of whiskey and a mixed drink. No thank you.

After this I did some shopping in the UK pavilion and then decided to stop by Ireland.

I got the Irish Cheese Selection Plate, which is always a favorite.

I also got the Seafood Fisherman's Pie.

This has really great flavor, but there were literally 2 pieces of seafood in this. Very disappointing for the money.

Then we all stopped by Canada, which was crazy as always.

We all got the filet, which was heaven.

And found Remy in Canada!

Now our map was complete, so we stopped by and got our pin. We picked Remy with the garlic. I love it!

Then it was back to Craft Beer to get out of the heat.

Everyone got a flight but me. I was not feeling it and talked to my mom on the phone instead.

After we left Craft Beer we all rode Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico, which I love.

Then we stopped back at China so I could get another Strawberry Plum Wine Cooler and Chicken Potstickers.

I LOVE these potstickers. So yummy.

Next we stopped at Hops & Barley where my SIL got some food and Rob got a beer.

Then we made our way out to the front of WS cause it was now 3pm and time for them to leave and catch their flight home. We said our goodbyes and then I decided to stop at Greece.

Here I got one of my favorite things that I rarely get to have. Spanakopita!

This was really good! Very greasy this time, but delicious.

Our last F&W booth of the day was Islands of the Caribbean, which was such a fun looking area.

Rob got the Mojo Pork with black beans, cilantro rice and pickled red onions, which he really enjoyed.

He also got a Presidente Pilsner, which was nice on this hot day.

I got the Quesito which was puff pastry with sweetened crew cheese and guava sauce.

Yum! I loved this! The guava sauce complimented this so well.

Until tomorrow F&W!

Since today was our third day at the F&W Festival it also meant that we could get our free tumbler glasses!

This was very confusing to find even once you were in the right building. I guess they were trying to really hide it from non-Passholder guests. We had to check in with one CM to show our passes and IDs and it was the same kind gentleman we spoke with during F&G to get our Donald print! We knew it was him right away because we had a conversation with him in March because he is originally from a. town close to us. He even remembered us! I love Disney.

We got our glasses and got out! It was so stinking hot today.

Our feet were KILLING us and so naturally it took forever to get a bus today. It started raining on our way back to the resort, so at least we made it out of the park before that happened.

Once we got back to the room we were able to unwrap and check out our new glasses. They are soooooo nice! The pics do them no justice because they are super quality and gorgeous in person.

It started pouring not long after we got back to our room. We wanted to go to Homecoming for dinner and then a movie. We tried to wait out the rain, but it seemed like it would never stop, so finally we just threw on our ponchos and decided to go for it!

Now, when I say it was pouring, it was POURING! I have never been out in such a downpour. It was at the point where rain was just completely in my eyes and I could barely even see anything. Without being familiar with the newest area of the Springs I had no clue where Homecoming was and I could barely lift my head up to see anything. The first thing we came across was D-Luxe Burger, so D-Luxe it is!

They had a nice covered area outside to rid ourselves of our ponchos and try and get ourselves together before going inside. Ponchos stored in a plastic bag, we went inside to a nearly empty restaurant. Other than the couple with five kids in front of us who decided to figure everything out at the cashier of course. Much discussion and negotiating back and forth with each other over every single drink and sandwich for the whole family. It took forever. I was too wet for this nonsense. No patience! But at least it gave us PLENTY of time to look at the menu.

After we placed our order we found a seat inside and they gavels a locator to bring our food out to us. In the back room of the restaurant the roof was leaking onto one table pretty badly. Not good considering this is a brand new building. Yikes!

We found a dry seat and our food was out to us in no time.

I hate being wet. Hate it. Will not ride Kali Rapids. The poncho kept me only partly dry so I was being kinda bratty and decided I deserved a milkshake. Vanilla milkshake it is!

I got a small order of fries for us to split which was massive! It's hard to tell from this pic, but the small was gigantic. Kinda like Five Guys fries.

These were good, but they forgot to give us our dipping sauces. Bummer. I wanted to try the chipotle mayo and the curry ketchup but I didn't feel like going back up so we just did without.

Rob ordered the Barbecue Classic Burger. Beef patty topped with a fried onion ring, smoked Gouda, bacon, barbecue sauce, onion and lettuce.

He enjoyed it, but he was so full he couldn't even finish it.

I got the one I had my eye on for months. The Southern Classic Burger. Beef patty, topped with fried-green tomato, pimento cheese, lettuce, and bacon. I asked for mine with cheddar instead of pimento cheese.

Yum!!! This burger was awesome! I love fried green tomatoes and these were excellent on the burger. It was so much food that like Rob I was stuffed, stuffed, stuffed.

I really liked this place! It's pretty cool looking and probably has a nice view of the Springs in nicer weather. I also got a 20% AP discount here, which is awesome. The portions are huge so be sure to come hungry!

Now it was somehow actually raining HARDER than it was before, but no time to wait cause we had a movie to get to.

Once again I could barely see and ended up walking too far in the wrong direction at one point. What a mess. By the time we got to the theater I was SOAKED! The top of my shirt, the sides of my shorts and my shoes had a river in them. The movie theater has those awesome Dyson dryers which I essentially tried to stick my whole body into to try and dry off. I still froze the whole movie from being so wet which kinda sucked.

We made it in time to see Miss Peregrine in the big ETX theater. Our first movie of the trip! And it was a good one. I loved the book and I thought the movie was great and Rob enjoyed the movie too. Our Stubs card and AP took our ticket price from $33 total to $18 total, so that was a win!

The weirdest thing ever was that the Springs was almost totally empty when we went into the movie and was pouring down rain and when we got out of the movie it was packed with people with not one drop of rain. It was like walking out to a new world. It was so surreal for some reason. Especially since we were still wet and disheveled.

The one place that was NOT packed however was Sprinkles! So, I used my buy one get one coupon from our first visit and got two cupcakes for myself for the price of one. Win!

I got a red velvet and a salty caramel. I tried the salty caramel back at the room.

OMG YUM!!! This was way better than the classic sprinkles one. So, so good!

Little did I know this would be the last stress free night of the trip as Hurricane Matthew was making its way towards us.

That's so cool that you collect tiki mugs! I really want the Star Wars tiki mugs I keep seeing online, but I have more cups than I know what to do with.
Girl me too! Exactly this. Think Geek had those Star Wars mugs for like $8 on Black Friday so I asked for them for Christmas but who knows if they'll turn up. Of course I'm better off if they don't since we have a TINY apartment and many many drinking vessels... hahaha!

The next morning we set out for Epcot for lots of F&W yummies!

So good!
Of course I missed this... :sad2: always something for next year!

We made our way around WS a little further. You gotta love this view!
Oh yes! Lovely :)

Now our map was complete, so we stopped by and got our pin. We picked Remy with the garlic. I love it!
Adorable! I should have done this - would have if I had known the pins were so cute!

Our last F&W booth of the day was Islands of the Caribbean, which was such a fun looking area.
I love this booth too! Great photos.

. Our first movie of the trip!
What! How did y'all get so far into the trip with no movie?! Truly shocking. ;)

My phone is misbehaving with the quotes but yes the salted caramel cupcake is SO GOOD!

Guess the downpour was an omen of the Hurricane to come!

I got these for my DH for Christmas, LOL! I can't wait for him to open them :)

Now we have to get back to the reason we came here. Springs and F&W! That will get us back on track. :thumbsup2

omg how miserable. I'm sorry they changed things for the worse on you! My most miserable meal was narcoossees but I think you beat me!

Yum, rain or shine those deluxe burgers look amazing!!!!! And what do ya know I'm totally jonesing for a burger for dinner right now!!! Gotta see what I can scrounge up.

I'm sure your rain will be worse later with the Hurricane, but we got part go Hermine on our trip and it rained like I'd never quite seen before. I never knew you could get wet under a poncho but it can be done ; )

Cheese pinwheels! I remember reading about them in one of your other reports but I'd forgotten about them! Going back on the list for next time :thumbsup2
I've considered doing the luau before but the reviews are mostly negative. Yours is the icing on the cake! Think we'll stick with HDDR.
Wow those D'luxe burgers look great and since I also love fried green tomatoes I'd probably go
with that one. More and more places are opening in DS that I want to try, it doesn't make things easy!
It stinks that you were down there during Matthew but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit interested to hear how it was, riding out the storm :D
