Diary of a Picky Kid (& his Foodie Mom) DxDDP in December! Update 4/9 'Ohana Dinner!

I am caught up! Sanaa is one of our faves as is the bread service. We've been there 3x now, I love the atmosphere and find it very relaxing. We also like Tusker for breakfast but haven't been in a couple years now, since my boys aren't that into character meals anymore :sad1: but we always found the character interaction to be a little bit better there. I love the gingerbread house! I love all the little holiday touches all around down there :goodvibes

Hmmm, I do love the Y&Y wontons though! Not sure I ever tried just the wonton without the sauce though. Sometimes when there's a dessert on the menu I really want I'll purposely skip an app or not finish my entree because I hate being too full by dessert time. But that's because dessert is my favorite part of the meal!
Part of the "problem" at tusker house is that we were the last table before moving on to a HUGE group of people who were all at one table and who were really hogging the characters (like jumping the gun on their turn, I get that they had a bunch of kids so it would take longer). @areno79 was I think right after them and experienced it more, but they seemed kind of pressured to move on to that huge group over there (maybe wanting to get it over with or maybe just because what seemed like one grandmother kept shoving her little grandson in front of any character that came within 15 feet). Kiddo is pretty content to give a hug, take a picture and maybe brag about his Parisian autograph book that a friend brought us back from DLP so that got a little bit of extra interaction too... but by far the best interaction was at H&V.

Don't try it without the sauce, lol. it just doesn't taste like dessert. Also the kid having to go to the bathroom and letting the ice cream melt did not enhance my enjoyment of it either. I think he was kind of ready to go and hanging on me at that point and we had the dessert party later (at which I ate no dessert, lol). I think even if I had no ribs I'd have been to full at that point since I was just at the point where I COULD eat but not really at the point where I WANTED to eat. Our timing was much better the rest of the trip (sometimes it was spaced a bit too much actually). I completely agree with the 6 hours between ADRs being the sweet spot between breakfast and early dinner... by about 7 hours we were starving, but did not feel like a snack until much before 6 hours and then it was an hour to dinner and I did not want to spoil it. We basically NEVER snacked at all during the day!

Oh yeah, the party of 22! Jeez Louise they were loud and pushy when it came to characters. I still loved the food at TH. Seriously making my mouth water thinking of that boboti.

Oh wow! I think that's what happens with large groups especially if they have been sitting there a while. We experienced this at Crystal Palace. Funny enough that I found most of the character interactions a little rushed but it was fine I guess.

Totally agree about the 6 hours... especially when you're eating an app, entree and dessert!!

Ya'll areally quite welcome! :cutie:
Haha, that picture reminded me a bit of those pics of shaved cats... no one wants to know what is really under that fur!

What does AP stand for?
It stands for Annual Pass. My son has one since he went last february with his dad... the DVC AP was less than 2 parkhoppers and included the photopass so we split one for him. I did all of my DxDDP calculations before they announced the new discounts so it changed my "value" calculations a bit since we would have been eligible for that discount. Hope that makes sense.

Oh yeah, the party of 22! Jeez Louise they were loud and pushy when it came to characters. I still loved the food at TH. Seriously making my mouth water thinking of that boboti.
It wouldn't have been as bad if they weren't so pushy about it! I tried to be kind (internally) and just say well they are excited, but so is every other little kid who is at disney and not cool cutting off the characters when they are going between tables and pushing your kids in front of them. That kind of bugged me but obviously not enough to lose my appetite!

7 hours was ok (we did that on our Epcot day) but does require a snack to not show up HANGRY.

Day 2, Evening: Jingle Bell Jingle Bam Dessert party

or: a lesson in how to pack too much food into one day.
We were super excited about the JBJB dessert party, not just for the show but also for getting to meet a bunch of lovely DISers. It turned out that a whole bunch of us were planning on the 12/3 sold out dessert party (partially due to us!) and after a year or more of planning with the most lovely people on the DISboards, it was gonna be awesome to finally meet them.

And awesome it was. I am going to get sappy for a minute here but I just have to say how amazing it is when a group of people hit it off so well and how much it adds to your trip to run into them and hang with them for a bit. It was great because it's not like traveling with family where you are obligated to spend time and everyone's needs starts running into everyone else's.... we just kind of saw them "around" and indulged in a few minutes of small talk while all following our own touring plans... except at certain major events where it was nice (especially as a single mom traveling alone with her kid) to be part of a group rather than a table for 2. Even more amazing was that kiddo hit it off with another little boy traveling alone with his mom in our "group" and we were able to get together with them for touring at various times. It was VERY hard to say goodbye but it was so wonderful for the kid to have a friend to do some stuff with during the trip. So all of that pretty much started here at JBJB dessert party.

I will also say this... I am the worst multitasker in the world. If I am at a party and if I am running my mouth I am not eating. So from that perspective, between being distracted by the people and being not one bit hungry, I definitely did not get my money's worth from a food perspective. I also did not take any photos of food either so I will have to find some stock photos. The one thing I did manage to do was knock back about 3 of those gingerbread martinis:

IMG_7195-1-1200x900.jpg

(photo from the wdw news today).

These were good. I don't just like creamy sauce and creamy soups, I like creamy drinks too. The BF says if there is a way to pack extra calories or fat into a dish I can find it :P These were not super boozy tasting but nice and creamy with a spicy gingerbread flavor. I wished I had my refillable mug but we hadn't checked into the hotel yet so no mug for me but I totally would have taken a couple of these things to go in the disney equivalent of a grown up sippie cup.

I also had an angry orchard hard cider. I love angry orchard, it is my favorite hard cider. They were served in cans, which I've never seen before... but since they were served in cans and since I heard if you chatted up the bartender from Massachusetts (where I am also from) that he'd take good care of you, I somehow ended up with two of these to go. So I guess between 3 cocktails and 3 cans of angry orchard I probably did ok on value here.

I looked over the desserts and got my kid some of the warm chocolate cake with ice cream and some of the rice krispie treat bonbons. I don't think he ate much of the cake but he loves ice cream like I do so that was gone and he LOVES rice krispie treats. I think he may have had a cupcake too but I honestly do not remember. I was too involved to explore much about the other areas either and was kind of sorry to have missed the nitro stuff but oh well. I have seen the occasional review deriding the ubiquitous rice krispie treat bonbon at dessert parties... well, I am glad they have them because I think it is a safe treat for kids who might not be into the fancier stuff. I had a ziploc bag and I ended up taking 5 or 6 of these home along with a couple of the soft gingerbread cookies with the chocolate center. And the kid having other kids to play pokemon go with definitely aided in the socialization part of the evening.

I did try some of the savory stuff and of course gravitated toward the salty and creamy... the spinach artichoke dip with flatbreads was pretty good. It tasted more like some kind of cheddar/american cheese dip to me and not that parmesan flavor that is normally in spinach artichoke dip but it was salty and tasty and the flatbreads were fresh and warm and soft for dipping so I enjoyed this while knocking back gingerbread martinis. I also tried the sweet and sour meatballs and NO is all I have to say but I think this is a personal taste thing... I did not like the sweet and savory combo there, it was way too sweet for me. Not sure what I was expecting but not that.

The only real picture I've got at the dessert party is of the kid and me with Santa Goofy. So I'll share that here because it's all I got... not that it stopped me from turning an event in which I barely ate a thing into a several paragraph review :) I wish I had thought to turn my flash on though, everyone else's pics came out so much better :( But my camera takes such great low light pics I generally leave it off.

20161203_180533_zpsvijtcnkd.jpg

and then finally the reason for the dessert party and why I feel like even if I barely ate, I got my money's worth. The viewing area for the show was FANTASTIC. I had read just to hang out at the back so you don't have people directly in front of you and it was great. The kiddo claimed he couldn't see so he and his new friend D went to to the front of the handicapped area (we couldn't go with them but I felt ok leaving them since they were together and instructed where to meet us afterwards). He enjoyed it too but here was the view from where I stood:

20161203_185608_zpsuycsz6xg.jpg

This show got mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it! It was mostly a projection and multi media show with a fireworks finale and I was ok with that. The lights on the trees surrounding us changed color with the show, the show story itself was cute (a lot of people don't seem to get it but it made sense to us, but maybe that was the martinis talking), the "snoap" added a nice touch and I loved the fireworks at the end. The night was perfectly magical, made more magical by the crescent moon directly over the great movie ride. I would do this again and would love to do the star wars version of it. Maybe next time I will eat something.

I fell woefully behind, but I'm all caught up now. Glad you all enjoyed Skippers, but I can't believe the delicious arepas are gone!!! Looks like the pork is a pretty good substitute too. I also had no idea Sanaa had changed up their menu or plating. Best get down to the world so I can keep up ; )

Good to know Sanaa and Tusker passed your Indian food test. I like it, but have never eaten that much of it so I'm not a good judge. Glad to know I've been enjoying some pretty authentic stuff.

Looks like the dessert party was an awesome Christmas treat. We've debated doing some of the MGM dessert parties as I'm confident I can drink my monies worth, just get sticker shock from the kid prices.

The replacement was very tasty. I really liked the corn cakes. Now that I am sitting here starving to death on the couch waiting to go out for breakfast I'm wishing i had ordered a double of the new appetizer because it would have been a nice meal. Or gotten the falafel. I think I just need to go back. Maybe order an entree or something too, lol.

Yeah people are ticked about Sanaa, apparently there is an $11 (!!!) upcharge to get 2 meats. I mean there is literally a dollar's worth of chicken thigh in that butter chicken (ok so the shrimp and beef might be more). I don't mind so much (at all) because I was having a super difficult time picking my second main so having it narrowed down helped me, I think the Paneer was #2 on my list anyway so it was not a hardship for me. Also I love vegetarian ethnic food and there have been several times when the veg option has been a very close 2nd, but I love meat too so I usually end up ordering the meat, lol. I understand people feel that this is a perceived lesser value but Paneer is always the same price as chicken (and far more labor intensive since it needs to be made fresh) at Indian restaurants so I did not feel at all like it was a lesser value. I STILL had a tough time choosing as every single dish sounded so good to me but luckily like any good disney food obsessed DISboarder I had given this quite a bit of thought before even going, lol. Disney Indian is better than Cape Cod Indian food, which is not saying very much to be perfectly honest but it is not quite as good as the Indian food I have had in cities with large Indian populations. But it was still quite tasty and not a disappointment at all, I would go back there right now if I could and it will be on our list for subsequent trips. I bet the kid might even like the kid pizza since it is made on naan, what's not to like? He was NOT impressed by the chicken, that's for sure!

We don't go a whole lot (last trip was 2 years ago) so I had an easier time justifying all of the special stuff we did. All of that stuff comes in at a bit over $100 for the two of us (somewhere between $100 and $150). I am always shocked when I hear the many hundreds of dollars it costs families of 4 or 6 esp with "underage Disney adults" but for me it is not so hard to absorb into a once in a while trip. IMO the viewing area was worth it and that's mostly why I booked it... kiddo has a hard time waiting long periods of time and being away from crowds was worth its weight in gold.

Very much agree with this!!! I'll probably have a similar review or just copy yours! LOL

in a word, it was terrible (I'm sorry to say). It was so bad, I need to write disney about it. I think they were having an off night as a DIS friend of mine was there the same night and her food was not good either (but not as bad as mine). Kiddo ordered the filet off the adult menu and I ordered it medium and plain, it came purple and sauced. I had to send it back and it came back half medium rare/half rare and charred because of the sauce put directly on the grill and he ate the medium rare but left the rare (he will eat medium rare but I usually order him medium in restaurants... I found consistently that except for CA Grill the disney steaks were cooked under all across the board). I had the lobster tails and they were also underdone - not to the point of sick-making but to the point of not tasting very good. But by the time I figured that out I was so done with dealing with my son's food that I just ate some but they were not as other reviews have described. The lobster soup came out with a skin on it... I thought it was because I ended up letting it sit for a few minutes but upon reviewing my photos (which I took as soon as it came out) it came that way, but in a screaming hot ("please don't touch this!") bowl. And you should also know that the ladies' room is under renovation so if you have to go to the bathroom you'd better hope there are no men in the mens' room or little boys who need to go ahead of you because you will wait forever. They also kept dropping dishes all night long, two were dropped while I was there and a third was dropped after I left according to my friend. My last experience there a decade ago was also mediocre so I think this one is permanently off my list. Sorry for the bad news, maybe you'll have better luck :(

Oh wow, sounds horrible! We haven't eaten at Narcoossee's since 2011 but we loved the food at the time. Was planning on going there again for an anniversary dinner. I'll be interested to see your full review. I would definitely write Disney about it.

I love Indian food too...but I've never eaten at Sanaa. Your review makes me want to book an ADR, stat! My DH won't eat Indian food at all so I need to find someone who will go with me, though. Oh, it all looks scrumptious.

the last time I ate there was a very long time ago and I remember it being ok but nothing special. I was looking forward to exquisite lobster and it was not :( I did write to Disney, haven't gotten a response except for the auto response so far. I will share when I do!

They have a plain strip steak... will he eat that, or a burger even? they have it at lunch and on the kid's menu - of course it is indian inspired in "dress" but I am willing to bet he would not be the first to ask for just a plain burger before.

For those prices, it would have to be something he's really excited about...not a burger with "weird stuff" on it. We eat out so infrequently, especially table service, so we try to go somewhere that appeals to everyone, which is a challenge! Every menu item sounds delicious to me, though. I do have local friends who like Indian food so I'll bet I can convince one of them to go with me next year.

aw he wouldn't take one for the team? lol. 20% off with AP, not sure if yours counts? I would go with you in a heartbeat. If he likes tusker house, the chicken curry there was completely delicious as well. I seriously have low expectations for Indian food outside of an indian restaurant that either I have been brought to by an indian friend or one where I walk in and is at least 75% indian patrons, lol. The butter chicken was not as whitewashed as I expected it to be, I have had far less successful similar dishes appealing to "middle america" tastes at otherwise pretty decent indian restaurants. I was impressed and would go back in a heartbeat. my child would be happy with just the bread.

Loved your reviews and your son's shirt that he wore at Tusker House. The view from the dessert party is pretty sweet! Makes me wish I had booked the Star Wars party for my trip in January.

Day 3: Breakfast

So for day 3 we had a very early morning at Hollywood Studios planned. It was morning EMH and we planned to be there a good 45 minutes earlier to line up to sign up for Jedi Training Academy. We were up around 5:30am (and by "we" I mean "the kid got me up") so I got showered and dressed and we went to figure out what snack credit options we had for a super early breakfast. I'd never been by the belle vue lounge and they had cereal and milk on the snack list so we went there where I got my kid a single serve cereal (I think it was frosted flakes but don't quote me, we do not eat a lot of cereal in our house so I let him have what he wants on vacation) with milk that was like $3.99 for one snack credit. It was cereal. It was milk. He ate it without complaint.

I got myself a yogurt parfait, which I purchased sight unseen. Now let me back up a second... here on my lovely island of Martha's Vineyard, there is a dining and merchandise institution called "the black dog." there is a tavern. there is a bakery. there is a bakery cafe. I used to work across the street from the bakery cafe. In addition to $1 coffee refills and $2 woofers for islanders if you know to get there before 8am, they have a yogurt parfait for breakfast that will knock your socks off. They take a 20oz iced coffee cup. They layer it with stonyfield farms vanilla yogurt, fresh sliced bananas and strawberries, and juicy blueberries and raspberries... along with their own spicy yummy crunchy fresh housemade granola.

Ok. So this is Disney, not the black dog. I get that. But I at least expected something that tasted good. This is what I got:

20161204_064806%201_zpsstp4ku1p.jpg

it does not look so bad, especially staged prettily in front of my purse.... but this was truly the most awful thing I put in my mouth the whole trip. If you are a super healthy eater and never eat flavored yogurt and are overwhelmed by all of the sugar, fat and salt in Disney food, this is for you. It is plain greek yogurt with chia seeds mixed in and a few raspberries on top and topped with granola. Wet granola. It probably was not wet when it was first topped but got that way sitting overnight.

I will say I am not the hugest fan of yogurt ever to begin with (although I love homemade tzatziki and raita and using it as a condiment basically so go figure that out... if this thing had some cucumber, garlic and lemon in it it would have improved it... trust me!) but this whole thing was the opposite of delicious. The chia seeds did not bother me but the yogurt was very sour (I guess that is why I don't eat plain yogurt), the raspberries were also sour and the granola was mushy. I mixed it together and held my nose and downed it because I had paid for it and had better things coming but I would not get this again, and you shouldn't either unless you are one of the aforementioned healthy people (I am not mocking... I'm sure there are people who go to Disney and get dragged to the boardwalk bakery and positively are craving one of these things. I am not that girl!) This. Was. Not. Yummy. But it did the job which is kept me from having a blood sugar crash until our 11:15 lunch ADR.

Day 3: Lunch- Sci Fi Dine in

So fortified with our 2 snack credit breakfast we met up with the kiddo's new friend and waited to be let into HS for the mad rush to jedi training. This is a dining report not a trip report but I have to say that I have never seen anything like the rush to sign up for Jedi Training. Gah I was glad we were early and doubly glad we had awesome people to pass the time with while we were waiting first at the tapstiles, then at the entrance to the street, then behind the guy holding the sign for jedi training. But I was so glad I did it because my kid did awesome. He has done it before but 2 years ago he was kind of klutzy at it... this time it was just so amazing to watch him be able to follow the multiple instructions and be coordinated enough to execute them... I'm so proud of him and it was worth all of the extra effort. I'm glad I got a video of his battle but I just have to share a pic from the photopass while I'm being all glowy and sappy about it... but when you have a kid who struggles with so much the simplest things can be the biggest triumphs (although I will say most kids looked like he did 2 years ago).

Anyway since @kastoney doesn't get kicked out for sharing pics of her totally adorable little one I'm going to assume it is ok to do so once in a while. I promise I'll get back to the food!

HE DID AWESOME.

So we did the 10:40 show which had us out right at 11:10, just in time to walk a minute to our 11:15 Sci Fi Dine In lunch... which is really why you are all here! So I won't hold out on food pics too much longer.

My strategy of "early in the restaurants hours" seating worked once again - last time we went the lobby was packed and we waited outside I think? This time there was plenty of seating and our pager went off within a couple of minutes of sitting. We were taken to the back seat of a car that was already occupied by a family of 4, which was fine.

Here is our selfie in the back seat of the car:

20161204_112409_zpsiozlatpb.jpg

last time we went I requested a "car table" because I thought there were a whole lot more picnic tables and they put us in a table with chairs in a car instead of a car booth. Kiddo was a little disappointed by this so this time I kept my mouth shut and we got a regular car booth. It was fun I admit :)

So here was another strategic share on the DxDDP. I learned my lesson after Y&Y and I did not show the kid the menu. I just said to him "this is what you are having." I think he stopped listening after "chocolate milk shake", lol (I let him pick his flavor and he was so overwhelmed he couldn't, so I picked for him).

This is a great place to share! They will allow you to have a shake for a beverage OR/and for a dessert so we each got a shake and split an appetizer and an entree. It was just the right amount honestly showing up there very hungry and ready to eat. Our water was great too, he was in the cheezy role without being too over the top annoying and he seemed to always be there right when I needed something but did not have the appearance of hovering. This is a super fun place and we REALLY enjoyed it last time and it did not disappoint this time. He had no problem with us sharing the credit and having two shakes, so I ordered the chocolate shake for the kid and the "seasonal shake" for myself. In that lighting both looked identical so I only took a pic of the kid's shake... the seasonal shake was a "pumpkin pie" shake - a little surprising for december but since there was no pumpkin pie at thanksgiving (it's a sore subject) I decided to go for it since the waiter said it had real pumpkin in it, not just the spice.

20161204_112558_zpspor25zdp.jpg

here's the kid with his shake. I'm glad these came out thick and frozen and hard to drink because he would have sucked that thing down in no time. Between the dark, the movies and the shake he was pretty much in his own little world and barely said a word to me the whole rest of the meal but just sat there all mellow - eating with one hand and clutching his shake with to his heart with the other with that cute but dumb smile he has on his face in the picture staring at the screen. Which was fine because I just watched the movies and chilled out a bit. The pumpkin shake was delicious and it did, in fact, taste of real pumpkin and not just "pumpkin spice" so I didn't feel out of place not wearing my uggs and yoga pants while sipping it.

For the appetizer I asked the waiter if we could get the sampler and he said it would require two credits (I've never seen anyone comment on that so I figured I'd share that info)... so instead I got the:

Honey-Chipotle Barbacued Chicken Wings
Blue Cheese Dressing and Celery Sticks

So just like I am an indian food snob, I am a NYer who went to college in upstate NY so I am also a wing snob. That has only gotten worse over the years as wings are BF's favorite food... if he were on death row his last meal would be wings. No joke. When we travel, we seek out the best wings in the area. We are very picky fussy about our wings and I can tell you a million ways wings can go wrong, but I will spare you because these wings were SO RIGHT. They were all a good size, meaty without being so ginormous the meat to skin ratio is off and they were cooked to crispy perfection with no coatings or breading or anything to "enhance" (picture air quotes) the crispiness. They definitely past the "chicken wing purist" test. The sauce was also surprisingly good - it was definitely sticky (as our waiter warned, but he also brought extra strength napkins and wetnaps for cleanup) and sweet without being cloying and had a definite kick. The kid ate two of the 6 of these (anyone surprised he only eats the drums?) and I was surprised because he would normally be moaning that it's tooo spicy but I can only guess that the fact that he was still sucking down that shake cooled his mouth enough so he didn't notice. The bleu cheese was excellent too, and the celery was nice and fresh and crispy and not waterlogged. Even BF would have liked these, and we discuss wings like normal people discuss wine lol. These get an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up but I also attribute their freshness to being in the first seating of the restaurant.

For the entree again I did not give the kiddo a choice. I just ordered:

Flame-broiled New York Strip Steak
Topped with Garlic-Herb Butter and served with Cheesy-Horseradish Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, and crispy Onion Rings

So I ordered this medium, and it came medium. And I subbed an order of fries for the kid for the veggies, which honestly never looked like anything special (and I do actually like veggies but I like them fresh and crispy and they looked in previous photos like frozen stir fry mix with baby carrots so meh).. I also asked our waiter, who appeared at exactly the right time when I realized I wanted it for some of that creamy horseradish that comes with the onion rings... because as I said before, if it's creamy it's for me.

Here is a pic of the kid's plate showing about half of the steak trimmed and cut up (yes this is a strip steak. yes you will have to trim off the end and a bit of the sides as inedible. It is much easier to do this in the dark if you are already a bit familiar with the anatomy of a strip steak) along with the serving of fries he got. As you can see, the fries are pretty much a full sized side so I felt it was a good trade for some mediocre veggies... and along with the shake and a couple of wings, this was a pretty decent sized lunch:

even though it is dark as you can see, it is cooked medium, like I asked for it. What a concept! The kid devoured all of this. Every last bite. It used to be that if there was so much of a hint of grill mark on something, the kid would not touch it. The lady at the mini golf place was amazing at his friend's birthday and somehow managed to produce a grilled hot dog that had zero grill marks on it even though it had been cooked on a grill. He still refused to eat it. But now he has done a 180 and will declare any meat "raw" if there is no char or sear on it. Which I suppose I should be glad about because it makes life easier since that is more often the default. Anyway, it wasn't a HUGE amount of steak but he enjoyed it and seemed satisfied even though at the end of the meal I had to pry the shake glass out of his hands.

Now my thoughts on it. First of all, this is not a $32 steak. I am all about expectations and when I think of a $32 strip steak I think of something that is more like an inch thick (and smaller than the one I got in area) and costs $20-25 outside of WDW. This is not that steak. It's about 1/2" thick and IMO thinner steaks just never taste as delicious as thicker ones but maybe that is because I like mine on the rare side but with a really good sear on it. Anyway, adjust your expectations. This is maybe a $15 steak in the outside world. That's not to say I wouldn't order it again... I would. But I often see bad reviews of this steak and I think that is mostly due to expectations of what a $32 steak should be like. This is not that steak but what it IS is tasty and was well prepared.

It did have some nice char on it, herb butter makes everything better and even a little more done than I prefer it (although I tend to have better luck ordering cheaper cuts medium rather than medium rare, and if I am sharing with the kid I order medium too) it still had a very nice texture. The kid is all about texture and won't gobble it down if it's not tender and it was... and also very flavorful. But that didn't stop me from thinking about how delicious horseradish sauce is on a nice roast beef sandwich and dipping it in some of the sauce (because after all I only had 2 onion rings!)... and so being on vacation... as my son says "I tried it... and I liked it!" OMG it was SO delicious. I love creamy horseradish sauce and theirs is soooo good, good on the onion rings and even better on the steak. Don't judge, I'm on vacation. But if you like creamy sauces, I highly encourage you to ask for some on the side if you order the steak. You won't regret it.

The potatoes that came with it were just ok. I mean they were fine, I ate them, but not the standout. I kind of wished I had subbed onion rings for them because the onion rings were THAT GOOD... hot, crispy, stayed together when you bit into them and not the tiniest bit greasy. The potatoes were sort of standard peeled cooked potatoes with shredded cheese... I didn't really detect the horseradish but it could be because I was in horseradish overload. They were fine. Onion rings just would have been MUCH MUCH better.

This turned out to be a great value on DxDDP with the steak and the wings and the two shakes... I am too lazy to dig out my receipt but will add financials later. Splitting a credit was really the way to go here and we both REALLY enjoyed this meal. I know this is one that gets mixed reviews but I say try it when they first open. The food and service is usually best then IMO.

Loved your reviews and your son's shirt that he wore at Tusker House. The view from the dessert party is pretty sweet! Makes me wish I had booked the Star Wars party for my trip in January.
Check out @yulilin3 's thread about the fireworks and she discusses how to get good viewing without a dessert party. You can, you just need to stake it out. So instead of doing the dessert party, stake your claim and then send someone in your party to get treats and have your own dessert party. This was my plan B if we couldn't get the actual dessert party. Her threads are SUPER useful with lots of information, pictures and she will answer the same question over and over and over again with seemingly infinite patience.

Also some people do cancel at the last minute too.
