Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE Information & Questions

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this thread until my eyes glazed over. =p

I have a DVC standard view deluxe studio booked for a 1 night stay in January. After reading through dozens of pages, can anyone confirm for me that the best request to attempt to secure a partial savannah view would be to ask for Kudo Trail?

We are DVC members and just stayed at AKL Jambo House last week. We did just that - booked a standard view room and requested Kudu. We ended up with a really nice "partial" view of the Sunset Savannah. The thing that made it a partial view was the people pen directly below our room which causes the animals to be a bit further from the building, but there were plenty of animals in front of our room throughout the day & night.

I haven't searched for one here on the DIS but here's a link to a forum that includes a map of the Jambo House DVC room classifications & locations.

I went on to do my online checkin for our Nov 18th stay. There wasn't an option to select Kudu or Zebra trail in the room requests as others have mentioned. Do they eliminate that option after a certain number of people have requested it? :guilty:

They have for some reason just eliminated the option all together. Not sure why.

I'm sorry that they eliminated the option, but your response makes me feel so much better. I'm planning this trip for my family and 15 other family members, and my heart sank when I thought I had messed up by waiting too long to do the online checkin. There's a lot of pressure and I don't want to mess anything up for everyone in the group:) Thanks!

Glad I could help.

All DVC rooms are on the 5th floor with the exception of 10 club level rooms on the 6th floor

The value villas are tough to get so finding one w/ rental points is great!
As noted they'll be on the 5th floor - the value villas are the ones located on Giraffe and Ostrich trails - the two hallways at the front of the lodge. I'm on an IPad & can't link, but if you search for AKL DVC maps you'll be able to see the possibilities. You can't request any particular view w/ the values.

I'm so excited!! I have one on a cash basis for a pre-cruise night!! I was initially thinking if a deal came up that made the standard rooms cheaper I'd go with that (right now it is MORE for a standard room than the Value Studio), but the more I learn about the Value Studios, the happier I am that's what I have!! Even if I can't get into it when I arrive in the morning! :)

How do you request a trail? We rented points and all that comes up during online check in is upper floor, near elevator etc. No trail selections or no ability to say partial savannah. Is this a request we need to ask the person we are renting from to put in through Member Services?

Just thought that I'd report back...

I contacted the service I rented my points through and they told me that since I booked a standard view I could not request a partial savannah without having requested a savannah view room.

I replied that it was my understanding that some of the standard rooms had partial views that were substandard and so those rooms were classified as standard and that was what I was trying to request (not trying to request something that I didn't pay for). Alternatively, I asked to request Kudu Trail and they had no problem with that, so fingers crossed that we luck out! =)

We checked in today and this hotel is amazing! The lobby is beautiful! We arrived at 10am, left our bags, and went to magic kingdom for the day so we returned after dark, but could see animals on the savanah. I saw the cattle with the big antlers and a giraffe. I am excited to see the view in the morning! We have a savannah bunk bed room on the second floor of zebra trail and it is close to the elevator. The room is beautiful!

We also had some pixie dust tonight. We left the park with two tired kids and when we hit the bus area, a driver asked where we were going and said here is some magic, I will take you now. It was so nice not to wait and be on a packed bus after a busy day! When we got out, the bus said magic moments and he was taking another family to their destination.

So far this trip is amazing!

Super happy with our rooms at AKL. Sent in a touring plans request asking for a bunk bed room if possible (booked 3 standard rooms) and not only did we get bunks but all 3 rooms are next to each other and have savanna views (with people pens to the side).

We are on 2nd floor Kudu trail

Reposting my question...does anyone know the answer? THANK YOU!...

I have coffee questions...with my daughter's inclination to sometimes sleep "late"...until 6...I need to be prepared. :) We'll be buying the refillable mugs but I'm going to need to make a first cup in the room until we're ready to go down to fill them. We're staying in a savanna view room...what kind of coffee pot is provided? Do they provide reasonably good coffee/stuff to put in it or should I plan on putting the creamer packets (you know, those shelf-stable cups) in my suitcase? What about at the Mara? Do they have non-dairy creamer there? (and, as my grandmother would say, would it be ok to take a few extras for the next morning?) Thanks for the help - I can't believe we're 3 months away!!
