Why do People Hate Living in Florida?

I lived about 3 yrs in Pensacola and then about 2 1/2 in Jacksonville. Loved living in both places. The heat and humidity didn't bother me at all. Grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast. I would love to move back but my husband said no way was he leaving Texas :)

It just seems to me if your tired of the cold up north you can do better then Florida

To me, Florida seems like a great alternative to the cold. Beaches, theme parks, SEC and Major League sports, no snow, laid back pace of life, lakes, wildlife, no state income tax.

I don't know, I'm just sick of the cold. It hurts my bones, and I am dreading winter coming up.

ETA: I lived in Polk County for a time when I was a kid and spent a lot of summers visiting family there (aubts, uncles, family friends). While the heat is hot, I never found it unbearable. I've always dreamed of moving back but I hear so many people speak of how awful it is.

I don't want to insult anyone in other states, but there are very few (if any) warm weather states in the south that I would live in. Would love CA but can't afford it.

I gotcha, but you would get more bang for your buck, like in South Carolina, Arizona, or a state like that. True Fla offer more, but the crowd/crime and high prices with low wages take Fla down a few notches in my book

Florida keeps us within a day's drive to both our families and I have several good friends in the tampa and orlando areas. Arizona is too landlocked and S.C. might be good but it does get cold there.

do you need to be next to the Ocean

do you need to be next to the Ocean

I do like the ocean.

But we are in Kentucky right now so we are landlocked here too.

I've never been fond of Kentucky. Too many rednecks and the general attitude toward woman here is pretty awful. Not to mention the winters.

I have to second what others have said about the heat and humidity being the worst. It's SO gross outside that you don't want to spend any time out there. My hubs calls living here "the refrigerated life" because you can't live without AC.

The other thing I have a hard time with is the lack of seasons down here. I feel like they're hot, hotter, and hottest. I laugh when Floridians talk about "winter" when it's like 50 degrees. It was colder than that in Seattle in the winter, but we still wore flip flops. We didn't get much snow either, so pretty mild.

I really miss Fall. It's my very favorite season. The leaves don't turn brown and fall off the trees down here until like December. I want to decorate for Halloween and put pumpkins on my porch but I can't because they'd cook! LOL - even in October, it's still too hot for pumpkins on the porch; have to get the fake ones.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot to include bugs. They are probably the worst and I'm so freaked out by them! Eeeeeek! Pest control is not optional down here either!

same here it seems like Im insulting Fla and they have a great State, its just preference. But hey I live in Ohio, I love it but I bet I couldnt convince any human into moving here, lol

As a born and raised and still very loyal Michiganian, hell no! lol

Where in Polk County? My dad used to have a house in Connorsville, near Bartow.

I don't want to live in Florida, although my Dh says he's retiring there. I tell him he can live in Florida, I'm moving to Hawaii!

My reasons:

Unless you constantly water, the lawns, gardens, etc. just aren't pretty. Here in central Pa, I'm used to pretty constant greenery.

humidity

sand spurs - pulled many a one out of my feet

ants

cockroaches - when you turn on the light and see a brown mist disappearing....and at night they run over you - eeeekkkkk! The only bug that freaks me out.

all childhood not-so-happy memories!
