My hubby and I were there mid-July. Booked Standard View, and faxed in request for 6th floor, MK view so we could watch fireworks from our balcony and boy did they deliver! We were placed in room 6028 and I felt like we won the lottery - getting a Magic Kingdom Theme Park View for a Standard Room Rate - that'll probably never happen again! What a great birthday present for me (in addition to getting to go to WDW). My only "disappointment" was that one tall tree that they didn't cut down that blocked us from a better view of the castle. lol Here are our balcony views - - -

Your post made me laugh! We were there mid-July as well, just one floor down from you. I told my husband the same thing about that darn tree. At least the tree didn't get in the way of the fireworks.

Ha, that's too funny! I don't understand why they just left that one tall tree! You are right though, the fireworks were amazing to watch from there!

I rented some DVC points from a relative and my nephew and I will be staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge September 11-17.

When I check in, do I go to the regular Wilderness Lodge desk or is there a separate one in the Villas building?

You will go to the regular check in desk of the Wilderness Lodge. The villas building doesn't have a check in desk. :)

I was just wondering, I remember a while back that I read somewhere that if there was major construction going on at the hotel, the front desk would give you a $50/day credit. Do they still do that? I'm currently booked here for the first week in December and am paying total rack rate. I keep reading that people are getting discounts to stay here which make it comparable to a moderate. I'm not seeing it. Thanks.

The credit was only for those who booked before the construction was announced. If you booked after the announcement then you knew what to expect with construction so there is no compensation being offered.

Discounts are separate to the compensation credit and would be shown upfront, not a refund later.

Maybe for the one or two pine warblers that will still visit the Wilderness Lodge... :guilty: Sorry to be so negative. I know it's not like there was a national park forest surrounding the lodge, I'm just still a little worried of the changes.

Mine were supposed to go to PA, sat in Tennessee for a week, then in Philly for a few days. They finally showed up a week late in a re-taped box 're packaged from Philadelphia post office'.

We opened opened the box and no magic bands were inside, instead there was a used cloth shopping bag inside the box.

Why would someone want to steal those? Did they send you replacements?

My family just returned from our Disney trip last night. We are big Polynesian fans and stay there every trip.
I do all the planning and each trip I try to do something new. We had never been to the Wilderness Lodge so I made dinner reservations at Artist Point.

Oh my word. The Wilderness Lodge and surrounding landscaping is absolutely gorgeous! It feels so secluded and peaceful. My husband was so impressed with the lobby. And my daughter and her boyfriend loved the fireplace. Artist Point was a wonderful dining experience - the staff was so friendly and attentive. And our food was delicious!

My whole family agreed that we'd love to stay at the Wilderness Lodge someday!

I hope you get to book a WL stay soon, @HeyIt'sMe.

Kook- as you know, I am also a mom of an only, so I remember the college drop-off trip very well. (even though it was 12 years ago!) For me, going back to work full-time as a SpEd assistant in an ES really helped to keep me distracted from how much I missed her! We IM'd almost every day- this was before all the nifty ways to communicate now! We were a 6 hour car ride apart, which was about 2 hours too far!
There should be a parents' weekend in October, right? I don't know if all schools do that. It is a strange time, exciting and sad. But remember, it is difficult because you are close and you wouldn't have it any other way! We deal with the sadness, so they can grow. You will be fine, your relationship will go through some changes, but the special bond you have will last no matter what. Hang in there!!

Thank you for your thoughtful post, @bluecastle. I have my moments, but you are so right to advise dealing with the sadness, so she can grow.

Now, I promise, back to our regularly scheduled programming!

Hey Kook, I'm taking your advice and moving my short January 2017 stay over to the YC. As Arnold would say, I'll be back!
Katesdad

Did I advise that? :scratchin Well, if you're happy with my advice, then I'll take credit for it. If you regret changing to YC, then I really don't think it was me:rolleyes1

Yep, gonna sneak in some Mickey D's to Dad on his 95th! Will probably go all out for the Big Mac for him. Plus a large fries. There's a courtyard area at his facility with a small fountain- I'll wait there with the food while DH wheels Dad out, then we face him away from the building so they can't see what he's doing. You would think at 95, they would let a person eat whatever they wanted.....

Today's our last day with the kiddos/ grand kiddos before we take off towards WDW. One more stop about 7:30 am on our way to say goodbye to the grandkids who couldn't make it today.
Went to Mayberry ( Mt. Airy) yesterday. Love going there. DH got his yearly haircut at Floyds Barbershop. 10 minute haircut, but spent 90 minutes there because the locals sit in the shop to chat with people. Classic car show on Main ST. A great little town that is just like the TV show, which makes sense, since the show( Andy Griffith Show) is based on the town...
Sorry went off topic........

I'm telling you, if I make it to 95, I should finally be able to eat anything I darn please. Mildly Disney related: I read that Dick Van Dyke eats a pint of ice cream before bed every night - the 90's sound great to me!

Mt. Airy sounds idyllic, but, they are missing the great Old Faithful Club and cobbler;)

:offtopic: Can someone please tell me how Muppet Vision 3D runs? Oct 28th it opens at 9am but do they run the shows on the hour and half hour?

Not OT to me, it's WDW-related so ask away.

Thank you for posting your wonderful photos, even with the annoying tree:upsidedow

Welcome to the thread, @Notsofast71! I'll add your dates to our Lodgers' Log in POST 1.

I'm sure you're on to something. When I was reviewing all the permitting documents, I noticed that Disney had to purchase "wetlands mitigation credits" to "offset" any wetland impact. Maybe removing that tree would have put them over their mitigation credit budget:rolleyes2

Does anyone know how Enchanted Tales with Belle runs? I understand it runs all day, but is it on the hour and half hour like 9, 9:30, 10, 10:30? TIA

I think it is running almost continuously, with shorter times for the duration of the "show". I would estimate it at closer to 5-10 minutes, and they do a good job of moving groups through. Think of it more like a character meeting (along the lines of meeting Mickey in the front of the park) than an actual show. The Beauty and the Beast stage show at DHS has specific show times and is much more of a traditional show. Both are great though, and we have Fastpasses for both next month...

We check in on Saturday :thumbsup2 DH got a call yesterday from Guest Services regarding "our upcoming stay at WL and the refurb currently going on", and they were calling specifically to see if we had any questions relating to the refurb. We're fine, but I thought it was pretty cool that they called. We've stayed at AKL, Poly, and the BWV during refurbs and have never received a call, just the standard letter. The woman (Amanda) was very friendly; just though it was a nice touch :)

I cannot wait for our impromptu September trip.

Went on a strict diet to hopefully fit in to a group of Disney themed shirts I bought off of redbubble.

I will say the weather here in NJ is a good test for what I'm expecting down in Orlando. Today the real feel is 108 degrees with humidity nears 60%.

My GF never really been to Disney outside of one afternoon trip to the Studios years ago, so I hope she ends up falling in love with everything as much as I have.

Oh god yes NJ weather absolutely disgusting these days. GF will totally love wdw ..how could she not

Question for those of you that the WL Villas are "home" for. Do you find that the villa rooms themselves have a pine scent? I ask because DBF and I are considering a stay there next year (want to try a new DVC for a little change) and if the scent exists in the rooms then it's out for me due to allergies and asthma reactions to that scent. TIA!

The buildings do have a scent to them. They told me the scents one for the Lodge and one for VWL. I think VWL is Sandalwood. Very subtle but I was a candle maker and recognized the scent.

Thanks! It's hard to fit in without knowing a specific time frame so I'll just FP+ it and move along!:thumbsup2

If the building like the lobby etc have the scent it's ok. As long as the scent isn't in the actual room I will be staying in. Thank you for your reply! :)

The rooms have no scent that I can tell ( I have asthma so fragrances are out for me). You can always request a medical cleaning ( I think that's what it's called) so they don't use any cleaning products with scents. They do have to use bleach but that is a good thing!
