I'd call Fitbit customer service and see what they say. You've got nothing to lose. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll honor the warranty even though the coverage time has expired.
I shop at Kohl's all the time and know they are generous with returns but had to look up their official policy and didn't realize it was that generous. Basically they'll take back anything anytime (for store credit without a receipt). Personally, I wouldn't return anything after a year. Unless it was a large purchase like a major appliance, tv or something like that, I wouldn't try to return it after 2 or 3 months at most. It just would not occur to me to do that.
You used it for 13 months. I'm not that familiar with Fitbits but IMO, for an item that costs somewhere between $80-150, you got your money's worth. I can understand being disappointed, but I'd chalk it up as a lesson learned. Sorry to say, but if this is the second one you've had and the first one died around the same time (also just past the warranty), I don't think that's coincidence. Try to get a refund/replacement from the company if you can, and if not, let them know your dissatisfaction with the product and then let it go.
