Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

Following this thread... I would also love to see some pics of the temp food court area. I'm especially interested in the breakfast menu offered and the drink station.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

So the French Quarter food court should be closed for refurbishment starting today - can anyone who is there now post some photos of the temporary replacement facilities in the old Bonfamille's Cafe? I know some table changes were being made in the Scat Cat's Club area last night, and the automated player piano in the corner has been removed for the time being. Menu pictures would be especially useful.

Andre

Just left yesterday - piano was removed but everything was still operational in food court. Just missed the photo op for you!

If staying at POFQ in mid-December, what are the chances POFQ will share a bus with POR versus having its own buses to the parks? The small size of POFQ as a moderate is a huge selling point, especially if there is only one bus stop!

The two resorts rarely share except during slower times of the day.

Temp food court update: this morning I drove over to gets one surprise beignets for my sons birthday. I had no clue about the refurbishment to the food court...glad I got in early. They have completely shut down the old food court and are having the temp one in the area immediately to the left when you walk in. To put it mildly...it's really small. They have 2 registers to order from and they bring it to you at a table (maybe 20 tables). I felt for the cast members, as it was a mess for them to navigate. I was Glaxo got there early. Otherwise, I would avoid it like the plague and just walk to POR, it will be faster for you and better options.
They told me completion is scheduled for mid November.

Were there any drinks stations for the refillable mugs?

The way you describe the area.. Is it not in the old restaurant some had speculated? (Bonfamille's)

Wow, this is a real bummer to hear.

I just received the food court refurbishment letter the other day, and our stay is Nov 1-9th. I was kind of surprised to receive it, thinking the refurb would be done by then.

Does anyone have any ideas about the completion of the refurbishment besides "sometime in the fall". We arrive Nov.6th - 12th. I did not get a letter. Is that because my travel agent may have gotten it. or maybe because it will be completed? Curious - Thanks!!!

According to this post from @Disney mac who is there now, it's supposed to be completed in Mid November.

I'm sorry, it may have been. When entering the lobby, it is immediately to the left in the front section (directly in front of the old food court).
There was a drink station in there also with 1-2 refrigerators for the juices/milks/drinks for the dining plans. Again, yesterday was the first day and I'm sure it will not be as chaotic as time goes on, but it was not ideal by any means. 2 registers and it was all order as you pay.

I'm not sure about the completion date, but we booked through a travel agent too (who normally gets the correspondence and sends it on) and the email we got about the closure came right from Disney Destinations to my email (and not through the travel agent).

The only thing they will guarantee about the finishing date at the moment is that it will definitely be done by Thanksgiving (although my own feeling is that it will probably be a bit sooner than that). I think they got their fingers burned with the major delays on the children's splash play area.

I also left POFQ yesterday after a wonderful 5 days there. And yes, the area to refill drinks and coffe is very small - I only saw one machine for each and lines were long. I'd suggest taking advantage of the in-room coffee makers, and don't bother purchasing the refill mugs.
Hope they figure out a better system for guests.

Anyone have a screenshot of the options available during online check in? Mine is fast approaching and I want to be prepared. Looks like building 4 or 5 are closest to the bus stop.

Anyone know how decent/clean play pens or cribs are? We are driving so we could easily bring our own but the less stuff my hubby needs to pack and carry around the better. See, I'm such a good wife!!:D

Received a pin code offer in the mail and applied it to to our current offer...got an extra night added (with ddp) for just a bit more.

We are going to POFQ Oct 25 - Nov 1 :) but I must admit this food court refurb has me really nervous. We are a party of 15, so if things stay the way they are today, it could be a deal breaker :crazy2: Could someone post a photo or keep us updated. Have they added x-tra tables outside to give some extra seating? Thanks for all your help!

Hi, just did online check-in for our upcoming stay. Room Request Options are the following (you may select 2 requests):
- Corner Room
- Second Floor
- Lower Floor
- Near Transportation
- Ground Floor
- Upper Floor
- Near Elevator

You may want to fax a request to the resort a few days prior to your check-in if you'd like to request something more specific than the options above - I have had good luck with that approach for our stays. Building 4 is a good option for being close to the bus stop, but the resort is compact so nothing is really very far.
Can't recently speak to the resort's pack & plays/cribs as last time we used was 12-years ago (but they were decent the times we used them). :)
Congrats on the pin code offer - another night at FQ is the icing on the cake, enjoy your stay!

Here now. I'll try to post a few pictures of the food court rehab, but not sure the connection will let me. As of yesterday (first day of rehab), Scat Cat's was used as a grab and go for breakfast, but not lunch or dinner. The old Bonfamille's IS being used. When you first enter, there are some grab and go items (drinks, pastries, salads, sandwiches), coffee (sorry, can't comment on how many as I don't drink coffee), and now two Coke Freestyle machines. You place your order at the register, and then go sit and they bring it to you. No, there is not as much seating as before, but during both prime breakfast and dinner time, we had no issues finding a place to sit. It seems there are more things they can "get from the back" if you ask, so that might take a little bit longer. There seemed to be a little confusion yesterday, but it is expected on the first day. CM I talked to at dinner also mentioned completion in November "hopefully before Thanksgiving". That was all she would give me. lol

I'll see about getting some pictures posted if I can. Hang tight. :-)

Thanks for the update, looking forward to pics. If you can't upload here, feel free to post them from your phone to my Facebook www.facebook.com/portorleans.org/ page and I'll repost them here for you.

Are the Coke Freestyle machines linked to the RapidFill system by the way, so they detect the new style chipped mugs, or can you just refill them quickly and easily like the old pre-RapidFill dispensers?

Andre

Thanks, Andre...I may have to do that. :-)

In the meantime, it did not appear, yesterday at least, that the Coke Freestyle was linked to the Rapid Refill, as my daughter saw someone filling a random bottle with soda. I'm not normally one to complain, and we really are "going with the flow" on this, but we did purchase the mugs when we got here a few days ago, and if others are getting the soda for free, that's really not fair to those of us who paid for it. But, again, yesterday was the first day, so I'll give it another day or so to see what happens with that. We'll be heading down there for dinner tonight, so we'll see what happens from there.
