Disney World Buries Its Controversial $149 After Hours Experiment

Has anyone kicked around the idea that even if they sold a couple thousands tickets for these things and if it was a "success", they were getting some pretty bad press for it?

Overall the perception of this could be bad for them also.

In the past...they were tone deaf to such things...

However...Shanghai and ESPN have gotten lots of bad press and they are trying to recoup stock "value"...so I can't discount that the sour take on the event - which did get some internet and national media negative play - could be a concern.

Early Morning Magic quietly appears to be extended as some new dates appear to be prepping for release. I suspect they were sensitive to the negative feelings EMM generated, but not enough to kill it.

If DAH sold out as many dates as EMM I imagine they would have extended it as well.

Know when to say when - they still don't. Take a look at Tuesdays in September. Tuesdays are EMM days AND MNSSHP days. So you get to pay that $70 premium AND get kicked out at 7:00. Brilliant of them to have them both on the same day.:sad2:
Even if they are trying to beef up attendance on the MNSSHP days, this is not the way to do it IMHO. Price breakdown for the day:
EMM - $69 pp
Regular Admissions - $105
MNSSHP - $72

$984 for an entire day for a family of four

Don't forget to add $50 ea to hop to AK for the afternoon, may as well use your FP+ there since there would be so much time at MK in the Am and PM touring. $1,184.

Although US/IOA was $150 ea FOTL and $175 ea for the day pass to park hop (ride the train), so for 4 that is $1,300.

A park-to-park day pass at Universal is $155 each and with Unlimited Express included is $244.99 each per adult for Tuesdays in September. https://tickets2.universalorlando.c...wer-ptpueu/item-4day/combo-tickets/index.html Of course just like Disney those daily rates drop as you buy longer plus I argue that Universal doesn't need Express during such times.

I'm not quite sure what Universal has to do with the topic either...

Some people seem to think taht because other companies gouge, it's okay of Disney does it too.

I maintain that as great as the Harry Potter lands are that train ride is the biggest rip-off in Florida but this doesn't excuse Disney in the slightest.

I don't see it as a rip off because I think that people who don't go to both parks are making a mistake. I could use the usual quotes though. Let's see - if you don't like it don't go, Universal is a business, etc. ;)

I agree that Disney makes their own choices and that has nothing to do with any other company. Besides, Disney is pretty good at gouging themselves.

Well here's where I disagree, having done it I think doing both those parks in one day is a mistake and the train ride while cute is not worth the upcharge. Far better to do two days.

The topic has morphed into how out of touch WDW is in Sept, simply pointing out how some theme parks in general have gotten out of touch then. Our example was XMAS week at US/IOA-even more expensive.

WDW is $5 more ($984) and that is a "wow imagine that for 4 response", yet it does include EMM - $69 pp, FP+, Regular Admissions - $105 and MNSSHP - $72.

But since we are hand picking a date (sept) then yes US/IOA is $979.96 for the day (4), saving $1.25 EA.

Although I doubt anybody will do all 3 in charges in one day, maybe?

Humprey Bear mentioned Tuesdays in September so I simply did the same and $979.96 is quite a bit less than $1300.

But I added hopping, question really is on the $984 at MK or $979 at US/IOA-which one will likely be more desireable? Adding another WDW park may well be worth $50 ea for the day as well with FP+.

Regardless, $979 (for 4) at US/IOA is no big expense I guess.

I included hopping at Universal too.

The question is really four parks at WDW versus two at Universal. I don't find much value in two of the Disney parks right now but of course YMMV on that. I personally believe that the two resorts are both good values when it comes to passes and I expect that Universal will continue to expand. I don't know about Disney beyond the four parks.

Certainly not my point though. Mine is both have extremely expensive yet very valuable (to many guests) options that can be selected.

Anyone can see $984 for that MK day is a "wow" for 4, and many can see $979 is a "wow" for US/IOA day.

Truth be told, I might just pick $244 ea for US/IOA and go back for MNSSHP that night -$316 ea.

And again, WDW could have just added on to the 2 parks instead of spreading out into 4. I prefer 4.

Also an extra 4 hours and 15 minutes at MK compared to US/IOA.

7:45 AM to midnight at MK, or US/IOA is 9AM to 7PM IOA and 9PM US the first 2 tuesdays, 9AM to 7PM and 10PM the 3rd and 4th tuesday.
