>> Smoking at Disney Resorts FAQ <<

I do think it's mad that Disney want smokers to only smoke in the DSA's (quite rightly so) but keep removing or moving them. At POR last August there was a DSA not far from the foodcourt on our first few days (it was also there when we were there 2 years prior) i went back to it another day towards the end of my holiday and it had gone, if they had moved it to another area how are we supposed to know where it was moved to when the old one is still marked on the map? So i'm guessing it was yet another one that had just been taken away.

They need to stop reducing the number of DSA's, AK particularly is ridiculous now down to 2 in the whole park. There's plenty of out of the way places at resorts and parks where they could have them.

Staying at Movies this year and will no doubt spend half hour map in hand trying to find the DSA which probably isn't in the area that's marked on the map.

I've been looking for info on this all day, I hope someone can help. I'm trying to find where the smoking areas are for the tree house villas. I pulled up the map fro SSR, since they fall under SSR, but either the tree houses aren't on there, or I don't read maps very well (which is true, I don't). The only info I found was that smoking is allowed on the porches of the wilderness cabins, so maybe the decks of the tree houses are the same?
Anyone?

No smoking on the deck, sorry. The designated smoking spot is at the foot of the stairs. There is an "ashtray" mounted on the stair rail.

Oh, I guess that makes sense--by the BBQ grill then, right?
Thanks for your help!

I was at ASMvs last Sept staying in the Love Bug section. The main DSA is on the right when you come out of Cinema Hall and are facing the pool. There were two picnic tables and a smoking bins so it was not hard to miss. I happened across another one between Love Bug building 6 and Fantasia building 5.

They have posted the new map and some pics of the walls up at HS. I was trying to zoom in on one pic that kind of shows the DSA at the end of Pixar place by the old Coke stand across from the entrance to the back lot tour. Map does not show this as being a DSA but the benches and garbage cans are still there. Has anyone gone recently and noticed if this is still a DSA? Or is it just regular garbage cans without the trays on top?

I recently stayed at SSR in the Congress Park section. There has been a change in the DSA's not reflected in the current map given to guests. The current resort map (a link is emailed to guests along with resort room number) lists DSA's and says 'Additional smoking areas are located near the entrance of each Guest building.' The map is an updated one that differs from the map listed in this thread. However, I couldn't find any smoking areas located near the entrance of Guest buildings in Congress Park. The ash trays have been removed from the top of the trash cans. This leaves one smoking section in Congress Park section on the path near the waterway by the pool.

OKW had similar DSA's near the entrance to each building, wonder if those have also been changed. Anyone know?

No change in policies, just probably where and how many designated areas are available.
On a side note, as a smoker, I really wish my fellow smokers would do their business at the designated areas. I fear that the rule busters are going to get the privilege yanked from those of us who follow the rules!

Found this really useful information guys! does anyone know if they policies have changed lately?

The basic smoking policy has not changed (smoke in designated areas of resorts only, smoking in rooms or on balconies will result in a hefty fine). Smoking areas do get moved from time to time, but the Guest Services CMs at your resort can give you a map with the areas marked.

Well, it seems to me that the policy has been changed somewhat, namely to decrease the number of DSAs as much as possible.

It seemed to me I last stayed at SSR a few years ago, but I checked and last time I stayed there was actually 2010. I have no idea when DSAs were removed from the front of each building; hopefully it was recently since the map Disney is sending to guests currently still lists them. Using SSR Congress Park as an example, the smoking areas in front of the buildings have been removed, DSAs in Congress Park went from 5 to 1.

I'm sure Disney got & gets lots of complaints, I myself think that a DSA in front of each building isn't the best idea. But instead of removing all, a few could have been relocated.

Staying at the AS Sports (kiddos are BIG into sports) where are the smoking areas there? We have requested the Homerun hotel
My hubby has to have his evening cigar
Thanks :)

There is one between Home Run and Touchdown.

I updated my post #3 (http://www.disboards.com/threads/smoking-at-disney-resorts-faq-new.3436049/#post-54216966) as I recently found out Sosa Family Cigars in Springs sells cigarettes (but at resort prices, walk across to the gas station near planet hollywood for lower prices)

The sign to walk across the pedestrian bridge says raceway, which is the name of the gas station on it. It's in the new just opened springs section of springs in the middle.

I've had the experience of designated smoking areas change overnight OR close due to a private party. We stayed at the GF once and the DSA was closed for a private event. I asked a CM where I could go and they weren't sure. It took a few minutes but they arranged a place for me, out of the way of other guests. All I had to do was ask nicely :)

It's still a smoking area (as of last week) & hopefully will remain one for no other reason than if it's not on the maps, no one is likely to think of moving it, lol!

Really? They must have put it back. I went in May and it was not. Just regular garbage cans.
