Not sure if this is already posted or not, but I did not see it. We are eating breakfast here and the buffet is no more as of 3 days ago. It is still all you can eat, but family style with a pastry basket, cheese & meat/fish platter and a platter of eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon. Just wanted to share. My family dug in before I could get pictures!

I hadn't heard this - we have reservations for breakfast there in a couple of weeks. I kind of liked the buffet area as an 'appetizer' to breakfast, but as long as they still have the yummy cheesy potatoes, I'm happy ::yes:: Thanks for the update. BTW were the princesses 'the usual'? I keep wishing / hoping to see Anna and Elsa show up there, but obviously not counting on it.

Not sure about other meals, I'll see if I can get more info. For the princesses, we had Aurora, Snow White, Cinderella and Ariel plus Belle at the front, so the standard.

We had dinner there 2 nights ago - there was no buffet. Which imo was the best part. Instead a board with cheeses, meats and fish was brought to the table. There were also bread rolls and crispbread things. A bowl (small) of pasta salad - it was orzo and prawn and another small dish of pickles. It was nice but still enjoyed the buffet better.

As an aside - we were terribly disappointed with the princess interaction - they went round the tables so fast, barely stopping long enough to sign autographs and take a picture. It felt rushed and I felt we were almost a hinderance. Nearly checked to see if they were all on roller skates they were going so fast !!!

Don't feel it was worth the $160.00 for 3 people

That's really too bad. This used to be my favorite Epcot restaurant. Then they added the princesses and jacked up the price. Now they took away the cold board which was the best part of the meal. No reason to ever go back now. This is very disappointing.

Well, at least the bean counters will be happy

I'm okay with this. One of th things I dislike about a buffet with pastry is that for some reason, kids get their fingers all over the sweet trays. To be honest, that does not stop me from having my pastry, but I pefer it in a basket brough to my table. Thank you for posting!

we have had breakfast there many times with the kids and grandkids..and I am disappointed to hear this too...I loved going and getting fruit and some of the other items in the "special room" ...thanks for posting this

Oh I forgot - they did bring a dessert size bowl of fruit to share with the rest of the 'stuff'. It was a bit like an eating challenge as some of the things on the board were impossible to identify !! For example what I thought was a smooth pate was actually caramelised goats cheese - I'd describe it as an acquired taste !!

Yes there was still a picture with belle at the beginning

Does anyone know why Disney is scaling the "buffet" down? I wonder if it is more than the cost of the food offered. The whole cheese sauce debacle made me think about how Disney reacts to "issues".

That is too sad, count me in as one who loved the buffet before the meal. In fact, my DD12 chooses things to eat off the buffet more then the actual food that came to the table (she isn't a fan of eggs but loved the fruit, yogurt with granola, and various pastries). She will be so disappointed, actually my whole family will be disappointed. It will be interesting to see if DH will insist that we eat here after our upcoming trip. This is his favorite Disney restaurant for breakfast, not for the princess interaction, but he really enjoys the food. And I totally agree with the PP that said, as long as they still have the cheesy potatoes, everything may be still o.k.

Hmmm. In the past we had done breakfast because it's picky-kid friendly. This time we couldn't get it so we have lunch ressies - I wonder what this will mean for the kids? Do they get to still have "kid options"?

Strike this - I forgot that lunch wasn't really buffet anyway!

Huh. Not cool. My family is vegetarian, and I was really banking on the fruit, yogurt/granola, etc. to make up for the fact that none of us will eat any of the meat/fish options. We're on free dining, so I wasn't too concerned about the value aspect.

Disney is really hacking vegetarian meals left and right these days at table service restaurants. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude and always talk up how easy it is to eat veg at WDW, but... they are testing my patience!!!

DD and I ate breakfast at Akershus on Thursday and were really disappointed. They bring a cold plate of meat and cheese appetizer which didn't appeal to either of us. Additionally, some pastries were removed from the menu and I didn't know they took away the photo package. Akershus was our tradition each trip but I don't think we'll be going back with the changes.

The princesses interaction also was disappointing. I don't think the casting was what it once was.

I am so grateful for this thread (and the DIS boards in general), because this would have been a MAJOR disappointment for us had we gotten there in a couple of months and discovered this once it was too late to do anything about it. So much for our Thanksgiving breakfast!!! I just talked it over with the kids, and I'm going to drop the ADR and reserve a meal elsewhere. We're already doing CRT and BOG on other days, so we don't need the princess interactions (though my kids were hoping to get a photo with Belle--which was the main reason we were doing Akershus in the first place). Sigh.

Anyone want a 10:20 Akershus ressie on Thanksgiving? If so, LMK and I'd be happy to coordinate the cancellation timing.

This is disappointing, I have my first meal planned for December and was looking forward to trying various options on the buffet. This sounds very limited.

You don't get the photo with Belle included in the price anymore??

No, the photo package is no longer included with the price of the meal. They will scan your magic band and post the Belle photo on photo pass for you to purchase at a separate cost.
