Palo - What do I need to know?

Hi all,

We are saling on the Fantasy at the end of September and we have a reservation to dine at Palo on the 1st night. We've never dined at Palo before so tell me, what do I need to know? Any "must tries"? Any ordering tips? Thanks!

Take your time - put aside a good 2 hrs
Watch the dress code

Appetizer cheese tray/meat/olives/etc to start - always good - don't overdo it since the rest is in my mind 'much' better
Can choose whatever you want (appetizer +pasta + main) - or sometimes I'm in the mood and get appetizer + main + main - especially if you've never been before - just tell your server what you really are interested in
I.e. you Can also order 1/2 portion (say you want one or two scallops (not full order) and 1/2 portion risotto to try

I like lamb so that's what I always get (med rare).. wife often gets the filet
I'd say other favorites for most people are the calamari, and we like the scallops... i think the mushroom risotto personally is good - people used to love to lobster ravioli, i do not.

They started a new tasting menu which goes courses + glass of wine for each - but we skip that (don't drink too much wine)
They also started the option of a waygu filet (on the magic recently at least), extra charge.. I assume kinda like V&A at Disney, and/or Remy but I passed also..

Everyone loves Chocolate suffle (agree on this)

If you like white wine - i myself recommend the gaierhoff moscato d'asti..

See also if you can check out the palo brunch sometime.. different, also fun experience

Remember the dress code. Let the server know early that you want the chocolate souffle for dessert. If you like wine, let your server or the sommelier help you pick a wine that pairs well with what you are ordering. And definitely go hungry.

Ummmm chocolate? Okay no need to twist my arm. LOL.

So it sounds like it's pretty customizable to your likes and the servers will kind of walk you through it (just like the MDRs). Right? So portions are good sizes (for multiple courses that is - always a question from hubby). Sounds like the Souffle is a must try. We are planning on sitting with our daughters in the MDR for main seating and then they'll go to the club while we go to dinner. 7:00pm res should be okay right? Thanks so much guys!

We like our Palo or Remy night on Pirate night as we dont love the menu that night. But the first night sunset is also super.

Absolutely a "Must"... The 1st night at Palo or Remy is our favorite. We feel it's a perfect way to start our cruise (15 so far). Nice thing about Palo, on the 1st evening after leaving PC with an early reservation you should able to dine while watching the sunset.....
15?! Wow - I hope that can be us some day! That's awesome. The sunset would be amazing! But we will be sitting with the girls for their dinner and then dine at Palo after. I'm guessing that it will still be amazing right?

Yup Tamara,They'll walk you through everything. Also, just like in the MDR, if you want more than one Appetizer, Entree, or Desert they will accommodate within reason. They are very flexible.

Oh, and when they ask you which sauce you want with the souffle, the correct answer is 'both'! :)

Hahaha duly noted. Sounds like a good response.

On our Palo night our kids liked to order room service and watch TV while we got ready for dinner. That way that could hang at the pool a little longer when the crowds leave. Also sitting for long dinners everynight got old for them, We then would drop them off at the kids club and off to Palo.

Wrong. Your server will be much more involved with your diner at Palo than at the MDR. You can discuss your likes/dislikes and will advise you on courses and pairing wine. He/she will ask you if you would like the chocolate soufle when ordering your entree as the shoufle will take more than half an hour in the oven to prepare. Just say yes, try it and enjoy. If you don't like it, just order something else.
Palo is a table service "all you enjoy to eat", so don't be ashamed to order several dishes if you wish to try.

Most important: don't rush it. You can take as long as you wish and if you do you will have a great experience. Have fun with your server and with each other. Enjoy the view, the food, the wine and the relaxation. 2 hours is a nice guideline. Can take a little longer or shorter if you wish.
No need to bring cash, as you will be presented a slip to add tip to your stateroom account.

You will want to tell your servers in the MDR that you have the 7:00 res at Palo and ask that they speed up your children's food a little so you aren't rushing to drop the kids off and get up to Palo.

Oh well I'm just getting more and more excited. Thanks for the insight!
