Please fix splash mountain

My kids love Splash Mountain and I know people will be disappointed if it was closed, but it it needs to be rethemed and refurbished. My son jokes at what point will the ride stop working. Last year, we had to be carried off the ride. Luckily, this year, we only got stuck for brief period of time. I am not sure what the problem is, but Disney should fix it. And while they are at it, they should retheme it to a show/movie that they can watch or they should put out a newer version. Similar to who Framed Roger Rabbit, which kids have no clue what that is about (at least you can rent that movie).

As a side note, I was surprised how many rides were closed when we there (one of the busiest times of the year). Pirates was closed for the entire day and then opened up late at night. Space Mountain was closed for a period of time. The brand new Little Mermaid ride is closed. This then impacted other rides which then had a 2 hour waittime. I know these things can happen, just surprised that all of the top rides were closed at some point of the day. If you are going to charge $100 then people will expect to be able to get on these rides.

With Pirates due to be down most of the summer, I'm sure Splash won't be going anywhere any time soon.

And honestly, there would probably be anarchy if they changed it as much as a retheme would require.

A little reliability would be good though. :)

Actually Splash had a major refurb. last year. All reports are that it is in fine shape now. I'm not sure what you mean by re-theme? Re-themed to what? It now appears that they are going to do what they should have been doing for years and that is to close it every year for a short time and keep up with maintenance instead of waiting until everything breaks down. I have heard of no recent problems at all. Just that everything looked better then it has in years.

ACK!! That is quite possible the WORST idea I've heard on these boards!! We LOVE LOVE LOVE the theming of Splash Mountain, and no, we have never seen the movie. We don't have to to enjoy it, it's got it's own theme. I think you need to ride it a few more times before you go around throwing out crazy ideas like this. And PS…Roger Rabbit is obnoxious.

Re-theme it? To Roger Rabbit? Ick. That would give me the sadz.

Not to mention that it would not be in line with Frontierland in theming and that toon town closed with the NFL expansion. So Roger Rabbit would be way out of place. Frozen in Norway makes better sense in comparison.

I can't see them re-theming it just because it's themed to a movie that few people have seen. Heck, I'd be willing to bet most people don't even realize it's themed to a movie.

ahhhh yes, that great classic song of the south, it's probably best for that movie to stay good and vaulted lol

what I don't understand about the Ariel closing is that it only opened 2 years ago, it seems weird that it would need a full "closing down the ride" refurb so soon. especially when something like Pirates is really in such bad shape.

You do realize how impossible that would be.

Herbie Takes The Plunge?
The Apple Dumpling Gang Floats Again?
The Happiest, Wettest Millionaire?
Escape From Splash Mountain?
Atlantis-The Frontier Years?

It would be easier to rip it down and start over. And that ain't happenin', ...sure as I'm born.

I'm pretty sure the OP isn't saying that Splash Mountain should be re-themed to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? I think they're just saying that it's a ride based on a not-so-well-known movie, just like Roger Rabbit's Toon Town Spin in DL.

Hahaha. I was saying that both splash mountain and roger rabbit rides are based on movies that most kids have never seen. Well, kids cannot see the splash mountain based movie, song of the south, since it is considered racist and will not ever be shown again. I am not sure why you would continue to base a ride on movie that is offensive. And I do not visit MK as much as some of you, but I have never been able to complete the ride without the ride stopping. Maybe I have bad luck.

We have been to WDW three times in the past year and never got stuck or had an issue with splash. I hope they don't try to change the theme.

I was told by a worker that DL just refurbished this ride so MK decided to make similar changes. I have the same thought as you do.

Not every ride is themed to a movie. A lot of popular rides were rides BEFORE they were movies, like Pirates. Just don't understand the need to re theme a popular ride just to coincide with a current movie, or any movie.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree with this. Splash Mountain's theme can be enjoyed even without seeing Song of the South. I've seen the movie, but my children have not and yet they love the ride. It's one of their favorites!

Splash Mountain is so iconic, I don't think Disney will be re-theming it any time soon. As for other rides closing, like Space & Pirates, I don't think that's entirely under Disney's control. We've had the same issue when we've been there before too. Technology isn't perfect and safety is the most important thing, right? Also, Pirates is closing for the entire summer for technical issues. Apparently they've been having trouble with the boats. Link.

This ride is one of my favorites also............the theming is iconic regardless what some have said here. It's based on Disney's first live action/animated movie. The movie itself is not depicted just the animated stories told in the movie. Those who know Disney well know the story.............Splash tells a part of that story............you don't need to see the movie (as stated above) to enjoy the story of Br'er rabbit!
