Drinks Around the World...are we insane???

For our anniversary, my boyfriend and I are taking a trip to Disney World in May. We'll be going to all the parks, and lately we've been talking about Epcot and toying with the idea of doing Drinks Around the World (one drink in each pavilion in the world showcase, all in one day). Are we crazy to even attempt this? How many of you have tried, and how many have actually made it? Any advice/suggestions are welcome! :thumbsup2

My brother in law and I did it a couple years ago and I plan to do it again over MLK weekend with my 2 old college buddies. Good times!

Some tips include...

1. Eat a good breakfast
2. Start around lunch time
3. Drink a lot of water
4. Start in Mexico at the inside Tequila bar
5. Snack around the world as you go

Remember it is a marathon...not a sprint!:thumbsup2

My ex and I did this twice - in 2011 we made it pretty far, we skipped japan, Italy, and America. This year we made it all the way around during F & G and it was fun! Like the pp, this time we started earlier and went slower. It was a little cooler too which helped. I found the F & G offerings great which was also nice.

I wouldn't recommend dinner ressies, we had them both times and were to full to really enjoy them. Just make sure you're eating snacks and drinking lots of water!

I haven't done it (yet ;) ) but a friend of mine and his wife attempted it earlier this year. They skipped kiosks and pavilions without specialty drinks (or rather, ones that weren't special to them, i.e. they went on their honeymoon in Germany so skipped drinking in that pavilion.) and also split snacks/appetizers. Halfway through they decided to start splitting the drinks too because a lot of the ones they ordered were pretty big! All in all it is definitely doable, just might take some adjusting. Have fun!!

As someone who has mastered drinking around the world I do have a few suggestions!!

I think the most important thing is take no shame in splitting drinks! A few of the countries have some lackluster drinks and drinking an entire drink isnt cost effective or worth the effects of more alcohol. Take a look at all the drink menus and find which ones are really up your alley!

I know there is many reviews on this and most of them are right! We always start in Mexico and and work are way around. Here is my suggestions on which countries to split and which ones to get your own!

Mexico- enjoy a margarita in the inside tequila bar; this is a must (if you are a fan of margs) and for sure get your own. these margaritas are way better than the ones outside and there are many flavors to suit everyone's taste

Norway- the drinks here are not special so I recommend splitting a beer

China- this country is up in the air; we normally get our own cantaloopy but you could split a beer if you would rather save the alcohol for another country

Germany- for sure your own!! The beer here is good and the grapefruit beer is a must for my friends and I

Italy- we normally get a wine flight here; its more expensive but its a small sample of a few different wines (3) and the grand flight is (6); there is lots of different flights including all red, all white, and mixed. I believe we get one called under the tuscan sun? i could be wrong but it for sure has the word tuscan in it and is delicious. If you want to skip the flight there is a sparkling red wine that is very good! Not too strong and is very refreshing and everyone enjoys it. Spend some time talking to the bartenders in the wine bar, they have some great recommendations and are very funny once you open up to them!

America- this one is for sure a country where you could split a beer. its your basic sam adams and they have a little kiosk with some more unique beers but nothing you couldnt find at most bars but with a jacked up price

Japan- Depending on your tastes, we normally get our own hot sake. Its not a lot but is good if you like it. There is a sparkling sake that someone standing next to me once gave and it was interesting. Dont know if I would recommend it but it wasnt bad.

Morocco- Another country you could easily skip; nothing too interesting here.

France- All the girls in my group always love the grey goose slushies. its a really fun and delicious drink! We typically add a floater on top but we've only been spot drinking at the countries these days.

England- Depending on how you are feeling at this point this is another country where I would recommend getting your own drink but the serving sizes of the beers are pretty large so splitting is not frowned upon. I pretty much always get a snakebite but there are lots of choices here!

Canada- Unless we are making it a point to actually finish the entire drink around the world process we typically skip Canada; beer is okay, for sure something you can split!

So I guess the moral of my long post is, dont be afraid to be split drinks. You could always go back for more if you needed but once youve gone too far...well... you dont want to be that person

Make sure you eat along the way! I prefer to snack while Im going around instead of eating a big meal as that will usually tire you out a lot faster! Also, you will often find others hoping to complete this task as well! Make friends! I have yet to go and not make new friends that will often come meet up with us!

Good luck and happy drinking!!!

My DD and her friends have done this, and they had a lot of fun. They found t-shirts somewhere with a check-list for each country on the back. You could check them off as you visited each pavilion. Has anyone else seen these shirts? Do you know where DH and I can pick some up?

I've attempted three times and succeeded twice.

The one time we failed- had a midday lunch at Le Cellier and I just couldn't put any more beer in my stomach!

I agree that the responsible thing to do would be to split drinks; however, it's not truly drinking around the world if you do that ;)

The first time we succeeded we were talking to the Cast Members during the way and they all told us there was an official "College Program" DAtW.
-You have to order the beer from the stand
-You have to finish your beer before you get to the next stand

We always break those rules because we start with margaritas at La Cava and I prefer to drink what I want. Make sure to pace yourself (unless trying the official rules posted above) and take your time- drink plenty of water and have some food along the way (but not too much that it gets in the way of your drink consumption ;)).

Once you're done- consider spending the night at Jellyrolls- the piano lounge is a a blast!

My Husband and I arrive next monday, we thought about it. But Im too picky about what I like to drink.... and at those prices, I don't want to drink something I don't like. Therefore, My goal will be to taste as many tequilias as possible. :yay:

Hope you have a fabulous trip...

I agree with the PP's that there is no shame in splitting drinks.

I've done this twice now, once with my dad where we did no splitting. Then once with some college friends where they each took a sip or two of the beers I got.

Since I'm not a big liquor person, I get beers in just about each country with the exception of Mexico and France (margarita and slush). I'd suggest starting in Mexico because if you don't, by the time you get there a Margarita will kick your butt, and you probably won't even remember how good it is XD

I also agree with the detailed breakdown before that Morocco is worth skipping if you're primarily a beer drinker. My dad and I both agreed it tasted like camel spit ;)

No matter what, just remember to have fun, pace yourself, and remember you're in a family theme park. Too many times we've seen large groups of adults make complete fools of themselves or say inappropriate things around children. Have fun, drink responsible, know your limits. :)

My husband and I Drank around the world on our honeymoon. We shared drinks in a couple countries (and I skipped Mexico, me and tequila do not mix!) we shared drinks only if there was nothing the other really wanted. Let see if I can breakdown our drinks for you.
Canada - (I think we each had a beer)
UK - DH and I shared a Beer
France - DH had a beer and I had a mimosa (we also split a Bacon/Cheese roll which was amazing!)
Morocco - DH had a beer (can you see the trend with him!) I had an Almond Coconut Slush (not my favorite I don't think I finished it)
Japan - DH had a Beer (big surprise) and I had a Green tea Colada (which is the most amazing drink ever created!!) I had as many as I could on our trip!
US - We shared a beer
Italy - DH had a beer and I had a Bellini
Germany - we shared a Grapefruit Beer (which has become my favorite beer ever I hunted down the one store in a 20 mile radius that sells it!) we also had the Neudel Gratin which was very good
China - DH had a beer and I had a Mango snap
Norway - this country has completely slipped my mind I have no idea what we had!
Mexico - DH had a mixed drink, I didn't have anything

We ate a decent breakfast and had a few food items along our journey. We walked casually around and didn't rush. It was fun and something we will probably attempt on every trip! I was full by the end! And I don't think we even ate dinner that night.

That's way too much drinking for me but I always have a Tipsy Ducks in Love in China!

I have had many of the beers but never the grapefruit beer, that is on the list for next time.

On my last trip I did a Wine Tasting Around the World. I came in the back entrance so started off at with an ale with lunch at the Rose and Crown, then stayed with wine as I walked around toward Mexico, visited Future World, then came back in reverse.

On the first leg, I had the wine flights in France, Italy and Germany, sake (rice wine) in Japan and the sweet Moroccan red wine. On the reverse, I tried a full glass of a different wine in Germany, Italy, and France. I tallied up the drinks and realized I'd only had the equivalent of 10 drinks, but there were 11 countries, so I backtracked to Italy as I really like Italian wines and had one final glass as I watched IllumiNations.

Thanks y'all! I'm more excited than ever to try drinks around the world, even if we're not going till May. I'll be sure to post a TR when we get back to let you know how it went, and what drinks we tried. :thumbsup2

This is one of the main reasons my friend choose DW as her birthday destination (well, that and there are few other places where grown adults can pretend to be Disney princesses without judgement :) )

How do we feel about drinking water? I know it is a necessity, but I am concerned my usual plan of "Equal volume water as alcohol" will lead to me feeling too full for food, which seems to also be critical.

Also, do people have thoughts on splitting the epic over 2 days? Not as much fun or double the days double the fun?

if you want a true quest you have to do it during EPCOT food and Wine, If you make it around the world you should get a pin saying so. Have attempted and have failed , but the things i learned from my attempt,

1. Eat something light before you start

2. For every beer or shot you take, drink 10-12 oz of water ( It will help you from getting dehydrated and lessen the total effect of the drinks )

3. Have something small every few countries , i had something small every 3rd country and was happy i did

4. PACE YOURSELF , I went half way around just having fun but in the course of 2 and half hours had 3 shots from Mexico and about 10 beers. I sat in the Chase Lounge for a good hour , drinking water before i wobbled my way to the Beach Club to sleep

We're looking at doing this during our Honeymoon in September. Also it will be the F&WF so this will be an added bonus! :cool1:

I went to Epcot on January 17 and saw some of those custom "drinking around the world" t-shirts showing a list of Epcot countries with a check box next to each one. Not only was the list of countries not in alphabetical order, it didn't represent the Epcot geographical location of each country, either.

Not only am I baffled by one's desire to blow $100+ on drinks in one day, I'm bewildered by the fact that some of those guests participating feel the need to let others know that they're "drinking around the world." Should other guests congratulate them or something? Is "drinking around the world" an accomplishment on par with, say, getting a raise or passing the bar?

I'll let you know once I've tried it :thumbsup2 I can't say why others do it, but for me it's just something fun and new to do in Epcot. And if I don't make it, then at least I'll have tried lots of new (and hopefully delicious) foods and drinks, and maybe found a new favorite. If I do make it, then I guess I'll find out what those bragging rights are worth...
