Fourteen Days of Food Booths - Epcot Food & Wine Festival 2014

Planning to hit up that Lobster Alfedo tonight. I think that covers all the requests that have come in. Anything else? I have to go away for the weekend, so after tonight, I won't have any new reviews until Sunday. Stay tuned!
how about the pork slider from the Hawaii, I think, booth. That is one I definitely want to try. I also want to try the one with the pork belly and black beans. I can't for the life of me right now remember where that one is though. Your reviews are amazing. Thank you for taking the time out to post pictures and review them. It's quite helpful!

Okay, I had to do a little digging...didn't want to leave the question of tomato in the fisherman's pie out there without an answer. I found a recipe online posted in the Orlando Sentinel from a previous year. If this year's follows closely, it uses a lobster bisque for the base, and that bisque includes tomato purée. So, it looks like I was right that tomato was in the sauce. Just always be sure to ask if you have any food allergies.

You are so sweet! Thanks for going that extra mile! I always ask about ingredients before I order/eat ANYTHING (not allergies but severe gastritis that can lay me up for DAYS!). Since that fisherman's pie is the only thing that appeals at that booth I know we can by-pass it completely :thumbsup2

Have a good weekend, catch you when you get back.

What a wonderful thread - thanks for doing this. It's great for planning purposes!

I'd love to hear what you think of the Vegetable Moussaka in Greece and the Ravioli Alla Caprese in Italy if you are passing by :thumbsup2

I'm curious about the ravioli as well last year i was surprised by how bland what I got was. Thanks for this thread btw its awesome to see and hear about the food before hand cause theres no way to try it all.

Just got back from FW. DH and I LOVED the vegetarian moussaka! The flavors came together so well. Would love to hear what others thought because I'm thinking about making it for our Christmas open house. Skipped the ravioli...I was afraid it would taste like Chef Boyardee if it had been sitting around too long :rotfl:

I'd love to hear your take on the dishes at the Africa booth. Both have me interested and I haven't seen any reviews yet on them.

And thanks for doing this. Loving your reviews! Will be there in 27 days!!

Thank you so much for these reviews! We are arriving the on the last day of F&W so I will have only one day to make a swathe through the booths and this has helped me narrow stuff down.

I agree with the PP who mentioned being interested in the Africa items!

Your review is amazing! I appreciate all of the photos and the very descriptive reviews. I don't know what you do for a living, but you definitely write food reviews well!!

Oh Thank you!! I can't wait to hear about it! I know my DD is looking forward to this one...Hope it is good.
The scallop sounded so wonderful and I will have that on my list for sure!:goodvibes

These reviews are amazing! Besides hearing whether or not you like the items, I feel like I can decide whether or not I'd like them based on your descriptions. Since I will only be in Epcot one day, this will help me narrow things down.

There are a few dishes I'd love to hear about if you get there - the garlic shrimp in Australia, the tacos in Mexico, Kimchi dog, anything Polish. Okay that's a bit too much lol, but any one of those would be great. I have to go back and re-read. Did you try the potato pancake in Scotland or the Frozen S'mores (I'm just dying for one person to say it's awesome! )

I should start by saying that when I visited Hawaii, I had Kalua pig about every other day. This slider isn't quite as amazing, but I thought it was very good. In past years, I've found it could be small or dry, but neither was the case this time. The pork was tender and juicy, and it had been marinated with ginger. The mayo had a decent amount of heat (I'm assuming there was a little sriracha mixed in), and the pineapple chutney gave a little acidity. There was a lot of pork on my slider, and it was definitely the dominant component. Everything worked well in this dish for me.

This beer had a lot of brightness to it and a slightly spicy taste to the hops. Very smooth going down with almost a tropical note to it, but still a lot of flavor. A good refreshing option for a hot day.

This was probably the biggest surprise for me at the preview dinner, and it doesn't disappoint here at the festival. The dish is composed of a soy-based protein designed to resemble ground meat, cooked with tomato and onion, with slices of eggplant and potato on the bottom, all covered in melted cheese. I think this stands up incredibly well without meat, given that the spices and other flavors in the dish are the most important factor. The protein has a very similar texture to ground meat. While not flavorful on its own, it takes on the other flavors very easily. I could pick up the traditional spices of cinnamon and allspice, which I appreciate in savory dishes. I was also impressed that the eggplant was not cooked so long that it was mush. It still had a toothsome quality to it. This is another one that is extremely filling, but quite tasty.

This wine was the suggested pairing with the moussaka. It was bright and lemony with a bit of bitterness on the end. I thought it sweetened up a touch with the food. It was a good pairing and cleansed some of the richness of the moussaka. This had been the intended wine at the preview event, and if you listen to the podcast, you may have heard there were some severe communication and logistical issues, so I was happy to finally try it.
