September 2014 car rental watch

I posted this in the August thread too.

I just rechecked rental rates for my late August, early September trip. The rate for my one way, 9 day reservation full-size from Budget went from over $200 to $141.39. I used BCD W852875 and coupon MUGZ061.

This rate just went down a few dollars to $138.78 last night.

Check your Costco rates, too! My 15 day Alamo reservation (9/27 - 10/12) for a full size just went down $20 more, so I now have it for $273! Much better than last year where I paid over $400!

I've been re-checking today and most of the rates for my mini-van have gone down with the following codes. The only one that went up was National.

Fri 09/26 12noon - Sat 10/04 8am

Budget - 7pax minivan (Dodge Caravan or similar) - $336.50
BJs BCD: V923000
BJs $20 off weekly: MUGZ079

Hertz - 7pax minivan (Dodge Caravan or similar) - $357.26
Mousesavers Corp: 2011420
BJs $25 PC: 156321

Alamo - 8pax minivan (Toyota Sienna or similar) - $357.47
BJs Contract ID: 7014696

Try BCD W852875 and Coupon MUGZ061. I was just able to get $295.65 for the minivan using your times. If the coupon doesn't go through the first time, just click on "change" next to offer codes and enter it again. It should go through the second time. Good luck!

Perfect! I just got it! Took a few tries! Thanks!!!

Has anyone seen rates for Alamo drop without the Cosco code? Our dates are 9/17-9/27. The rate doesn't seem to be moving. We also have a Budget reservation which is $50 cheaper. We prefer renting from Alamo though so we can pick our own car.

I don't know how much cheaper the Costco rates are for you, but it was cheaper for us to get a regular membership ($55) and use the codes. This is our second rental car with this membership, and it paid for itself in the first use!

On another note, I personally would be ok with Budget. We were the same way till we had a rental with them out of MCO. They were awesome and the customer service was so much better than we had experienced with Alamo. When we were getting our car, I asked what we were getting. The guy checking us in told us and then asked if we wanted something different. I said, I don't know what else do you have. He rattled them all off and said pick whatever one you want, and if you see it and don't like it, come back and we can change it to something else. I was impressed with it.

We also had an issue with Alamo about the tolls (we paid cash, they said we missed one so was charging us an extra $60). It took several calls over several weeks to get it fixed. With Budget, they have a sun pass in them that has a switch you can flip off. We didn't realize this so ended up using it by mistake (it reads it and automatically paid it). When went to return it, the guy said he couldn't take it off, but he could go in and reduce our cost the price we would have been charged for using the sun pass. Amazing.

We will rent from Alamo again, but have no doubts about renting from Budget.

Are these general codes or Costco? I just plugged them in and got my full size with Budget $50 cheaper than I had already booked it for (and with my bank rewards now I will pay $0 !!!) but I wouldn't want to get there and find out I need a membership card that I don't have :confused3

A reminder to everyone:

Please, do not post any codes that are specific to a membership that requires payment; Costco, SAMs, BJs, etc.

If someone has a membership, they only need to know to go to the club site to find the code and get the rate.

No membship codes are listed in the first post, because I do not want people to be tempted to use a code they are not supposed to be using.

Encouraging them to get the membership, and telling them about your own experience in saving money by having it, is fine.

But please do not post these codes as though they are intended to be used by the GP.

I second Ktate82 in that paying for a membership to use Costco's codes is well worth the investment.
I rarely use my membership for anything else, because the club is so inconvenient for me to get to.
But I continue to keep the membership open for the savings on car rentals.

Want to rent a car for Sept. 25 at 8 am til Sat Sept 27 at 8 am. Is there any deals out there for a short Rental. Belong to Costco, Sams Club, AAA, Retired Military, and both Alamo, and National renters club.

Thanks for the good reviews! We rented from Budget once a year ago and we weren't thrilled. Part of it was our fault though so I am willing to give it another try. We were giving an upgrade but the car was filthy on the outside. We should have gone back to booth but we didn't realize how bad it was in the dark garage. We will be more picky and take our time this time around.

We already have a BJs membership so we don't really need a Costco one. I wish BJs gave better rates.

Our best price from Budget has been with the default RapidRez (or whatever it is called) number.

I got BJ membership codes and got a great rate from Alamo!!

someone else also asked about Alamo not dropping rates...it sure did tonight!! :cool1:

My rate dropped from $140.55 to $111.35, compact car for 9 days in early Sept!! WOOT!!!

You are correct. Thank-you for pointing that out.
I have had someone helping with this, and they did not delete some of the ones I asked them to delete, and they posted others I did not know about.

Back in my hands now!
Sorry for the mistakes on my part.

Codes are no longer listed in the first post, since I am having too hard a time determining which ones are membership specific.

Thats a great deal! That gives me hope that rates will drop for our dates.

Your best bet is to check as often as you can.
I usually check prices an average of ten times per day.
There are times when the price will drop for only an hour or two, then shoot right back up.
Other times, the price will stay down for a reasonable amount of time.
You just never know.

Checking often is a pain sometimes, but it can be so worth it in the end!

I just got a minivan on priceline for a bid of $12 per day...9 days with a total of $194!

It was the name your price option. 9/18-9/26.
