Back from Texas!

I just came back from Texas and I'm tired. I'll write some trip reports soon, but here's some highlights:

Six Flags AstroWorld (1 day)
- Better than I thought it would be
- Coasters seem to have a fresh coat of paint
- Ultra Twister was cool, but the park doesn't seem to have an outstanding coaster
- Surprised at the friendly employees and clean park (was I in a Six Flags park?)
- Greezed Lightning and Swat were down
- Crowds were moderate
- Waits at around 3 pm were getting up to 45 minutes to 1 hour

Carnival at the Houston Rodeo (1 1/2 hours)
- Rode 3 out of the 4 coasters
- Spinning Coaster was down
- Fun fair

Six Flags Over Texas (2 days)
- One of the better Six Flags parks -- friendly employees, great cycle time on the coasters
- Crowds were insane! Waits for rides were at least 45 minutes to 1 hour
- Superman: Power of Tower had about a 2 hour wait!
- Smart for the park to put a single riders line in Superman
- Used Q-Bot for the 1st time and it was rather painless
- Almost blacked out on Titan!
- Texas Giant was so rough! (and what's up with the guy who stands at the 1st brake run?)
- Food was pretty good
- Food options were burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, and other things -- needs more variety!

Six Flags Fiesta Texas (1 day)
- Crowds weren't bad for a Saturday, but rides got 45 minutes to 1 hour waits
- The BBQ restaurant left the Q out of the BBQ. It was standard "Six Flags slop."
- Park was clean, but trash cans were overflowing in several men's room
- The Rattler was brutal!
- Superman: Krypton Coaster was pretty fun
- Employees kept on stacking coasters

Sea World San Antonio (1 day)
- Sea World San Antonio is a lot bigger than Sea World Orlando, but it was less stuff
- The Great White and the Steel Eel were good rides, but nothing really outstanding
- Crowds were light
- Food was good
- I liked the Viva show the best
- The Shamu Stadium had a weird layout
- The ski show was pretty bad. Skiiers shouldn't act. Actors shouldn't ski!
- I had a lot of fun here!

BTW, my SFWOA season pass worked! It was fully activated. It was a plastic pass with a two year old mugshot on it. SFAW was able to scan it with no problems. SFOT couldn't scan it, but the front gate people let me though. SFFT actually typed in the bar code number when it wouldn't scan!

I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Texas, Barry. It was a pleasure to finally meet you :). Only 19 more coasters before you reach 200!

Welcome back, pardnah...

Did you see the funny dancing old man at the Six Flags parks?

Glad you had a good trip. We went to Astroworld two weekends ago and we were shocked at how much they had cleaned up the place. Although we live 45 minutes from Astroworld, the last two years, we have been going mostly to Fiesta Texas due to the filth and run down appearance at Astroworld. It's nice to see them get their act together.

It's good to hear the Astro World is getting cleaned up. We were there four years ago and it was so dirty and run down.

It's also good to hear that the employees were friendly. The last two times I've been to Six Flag Over Texas have been enjoyable. It's good to hear that it still is.

Glad you had a good trip!

Hey, Barry, glad you had a nice time.

Knowing you love rollercoasters, just wanted to point out that there is a new, though small, rollercoaster that just opened at the Mall of America in Minneasota.....and we're planning a DIS meet there in early May. Please join us!

Actually, EVERYONE is invited to join us!

Pat

Welcome back - glad you had a nice time. I just LOVE Texas.

Have you been to Carrowinds outside of Charlotte, NC.
There is a new coaster this year Borg - It sound great. You lay down - I've never seen one of those. Also there is an old wooden coaster that has a forward as well as backward line. The best part is the coaster goes in and out of North Carolina into South Carolina - Ha that should count as two.

Glad you had a good time.;) How many DIS-ers showed up....or is that not good to bring UP again? ;)

I haven't been to Carowinds yet. Maybe next season. :)

I was at the rodeo on Sunday and happened to glance over at Astroworld as our shuttle bus was driving down 610. I was amazed to see fresh paint on a couple of coasters. I lurked over to a SFAW message board I've been reading for a couple of years and a lot of the posters there say that SFAW is looking better these days. It's been three years since the last time I went so I may give it a shot this year to see for myself.
