I'm starting this thread a little early, but I don't want to forget with the Christmas rush almost upon us. I've enjoyed the 2013 thread SO MUCH and am really looking forward to the 2014 thread.

Thanks to all of you that participated in 2013 whether you met your stated goal or not! As long as we always have a book in our hands, we are all winners!!

So.... for this 2014 thread, everyone that wants to participate should state their book goal # and I will keep record of everyone's goals in the first post of this thread. I am not perfect, so if I happen to miss you, please do not hesitate to give me a kick in the pants :)

Along with your goal, please state the book or books you are MOST excited about reading in 2014!

As we did in 2013, kindly add a new post when you've finished a book with a brief summary and/or opinion of the book and what you plan on reading next (if you know).

I welcome any comments/suggestions as to how to make 2014 even better!

Have fun all! :grouphug:

I'm going to go with a lower goal this year of 30 books (down from 50). I did feel a little stress from pushing myself so hard to make goal. This year, I want to be able to take my time and read some longer books that I've been putting off.

What I am looking forward to the most in 2014 is FINALLY finishing the Harry Potter series!! Cannot wait to read #7 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and find out how this all ends!!

Also looking forward to reading more books by Carl Hiaasen (my new surprise author from 2013).

I picked 25 last year and I'm over by a couple of books. I think I'm going to set my goal at 30 for this year.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

I want in this year! I've been trying to read more, and now that I figured out how to get e-books from the library, I won't go broke doing it. :)

My goal: 25 books

I will have a goal of 30 for 2014.

I'm excited about reading Hollow City (Book #2 of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children), Sarah's Key, This Side of Paradise, Room, She's Come Undone, and Killing Jesus, and there are many more but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Last year I had a goal of 50, which I met, but I'm planning to read a lot bigger books this year. I have 11/22/63 on my list and know that will take me awhile. I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have read all his older books, but the last recent book I read was Cell!

I also wrote three books last year, and this year I'm hoping to up that to four.

So my goal is 30.

Ooooh Hollow City! I need to add that one to my list!!

I'm going to go with a goal of 75 again for 2014. I know that initially I went with 60 for 2013, but I feel pretty sure that 75's better. I've got a question for people who understand goodreads better. Will it automatically reset for 2014, so that I have a separate shelf of books read in 2014 and their reviews, kind of putting my 2013 books to the side? KWIM?

I'm in!!! My first goal in 2013 was 50 books, which I made. The second goal of 100 books, is just not going to happen. So, I think I'll make my new goal in between the 2. I am setting a goal to read 70 books in 2014.

I was really surprised with how many non-fiction books I read this year. And how many I liked! I guess I'm excited to see what other new genres I'll find next year. I've compiled a list from all the books that others here have recommended, so that's the list I'm using for next year.

By the way, I'm still hoping to have at least one more book finished by New Year's Eve! Cross your fingers for me!

New participant here- this sounds like fun!
I'm a big reader, but I tend to stick with the same authors and genres, and reread things a lot. I'm aiming to branch out in 2014.

My goal is 45. :)

I'm going to say 30. I think I am on 33 and 34 right now, but I am considering going back to work in the fall so I'm sure I won't get more than 30 if I do.

I am looking forward to reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I happen to know Santa is putting it in my stocking!

I didn't make my final goal for 2013 of 100, but did make the original 30, and first increase to 50. I found this year that between teaching Preschool and dealing with a 4 yr old, I didn't have as much time to read toward the end of the year as I did the beginning. I think I will make a goal of 60 books for 2014, which is a little less then I have completed thus far thus year, but feels like I should be able to accomplish it.

As for books I am looking forward to this year, I would like to read the rest of the Maze Runner series, and there is a new Mercy Thompson book to come out that I want to read. I would also like together back to reading the SHERLOCK Holmes books this year.

I want in this year! I didn't find this thread until later in the year so I just lurked for book ideas in 2013. I'm not sure how many I'll be able to read since I have a senior and freshman in high school that are both VERY active in extracurriculars but I'm going to try for 25.

I would love to join in this year. I have been wanting to get back to reading more and set a good example for my daughter. I am going to start with a low goal of 20 books for the year and hopeful I can pass it and set a higher goal sometime during the year.

I really enjoyed being a part of this & surprised myself by surpassing my goal that I had to keep upping it. My goal had started at 40, then upped to 50, then upped to 75. My current book will be #86 for this year.

So I will make my goal for 2014 to be 85

I am looking forward to reading a few books that are being released from a couple series that I enjoy: Mrs. Peregrine's, Mortal Instruments, Tradd Street series.
I have been wanting to read Stephen King's Dark Tower series & I want to read the Harry Potter series again.

Hi all, I seriously overestimated this year (probably because I read a lot of quick and easy books in the first half of the year) so didn't (and won't) reach my target. I think I did pretty well at more than 80 books though :thumbsup2

Anyway, I am going to plump for 60 books as my target for this year :)

Looking forward to it as I have read some fabulous books this year that were recommended on the 2013 Reading Challenge thread.

Thanks threeboysmom for organising this thread again

Count me in again for 2014! My original goal for 2013 was 52, which I hit in early summer. I raised it to 75, which I hit in September. I'm very close to hitting my ultimate goal of 100 - only six more to go!

So put me down for 100 as a starter for 2014. My major book goal is to read the Bible from beginning to end, even all the "begats"! If I manage that, I'll have considered my goal met, regardless of how many other books I read.

Queen Colleen

I'm going to go for 30 this year. I accomplished my goal of 25 last year and it wouldn't be a "challenge" of I didn't up it!

I have a whole list of books already downloaded on my Kindle so I'm not going to list specific ones I'm looking forward to.

I do have a personal goal to step outside of my box and read books from genres and authors that I normally wouldn't. I was in such a rut last year that I had a hard time picking books! I figure if I broaden my horizons I'll have better luck! I'm excited!

I'm in for '14. I think I will repeat 2013's goal of 75. I read a lot more but it was kind of an atypical year.

I don't have any particular must reads yet. I'll get a lot of ideas from you all!

I'm joining in this year! I haven't been good about reading since starting work so I think a goal will help!

I'm going to set it at 25 books. Starting off with Monument Men!
