**CONFIRMED** Rumor About the Resort Refillable Mugs!

If this rumor ever ends up being true, I wonder if it's just another way for Disney to push the DDP on us?

You don't have to be on the DDP to get the refillable mug. Any resort guest can buy them for the length of their stay.

Disney isn't one to let an opportunity to make a little extra cash go by. I'll bet it's a combination of factors coming into play.

-more than a little money lost to people using old mugs or otherwise getting resort drinks without paying for them.
-Drop in the price of the chips to an affordable level.
-Widespread (within WDW) use of RFID technology.

Put all these together and someone was sure to jump on the concept of cups with chips.

I really don't care if the cups have chips or not- as long as I can get my drink whenever I want it. But the cost for 4+ days does seem to have jumped substantially.

Wow. Thanks for that link. I copied a couple of the FAQs/answers that made me sit up and take notice:

-
Can non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests purchase and use the mug?

Yes. Anyone can purchase and use the Rapid Fill mugs at any resort self-service beverage station.

- Can the Rapid Fill mugs be used in multiple resort hotels?

Yes. The Rapid Fill mugs may be enjoyed at any resort hotel self-service beverage station
.
This is the one that is a really a big change to me.

- Can I bring the same Rapid Fill mug each time I visit the Walt Disney World Resort?

No, past mugs cannot be activated for future visits. Guests who purchase the Length of Stay option for Rapid Fill program can use the mug for fourteen (14) consecutive days after activation. Guests can extend the mug beyond the 14-day Length of Stay option as long as it’s still within the current length of stay.

We go to WDW enough that we have several of each design now. My thought would be to bring a "preowned" mug and pay a few dollars at check in to use it. I would be more than happy to reuse my "preowned" mug and not have so many of the same design at home. Recycle our mugs! As a new deisign came out I would have the option to purcase the new design if I liked it or continue to use the preowned one until it needed to be replaced. Just a thought...

:thumbsup2:idea:
Here ye, here ye, that's what I think too! We just came back from a 5 day stay at Pop Century and it was RARE to see someone refilling the new resort cups! Nearly everyone had the old school ones from last year and as far back as 2006. That's the last one I remember. Not one CM said anything to any of those people using the old mugs.

I think it more logical too, just to charge people a flat price for mug USAGE, not just for the "new" mug. I honestly don't know what soda prices must cost Disney these days, or coffee, or tea. We don't drink soda, and I only buy them just to get iced tea or coffee in them. Of course, I don't know how they would manage to regulate old mug usage. :confused3

I buy one mug each time we go and that's it. I just try to focus on me and my own. :)

Is this price in addition to the price you pay for the mug??? Or are these new prices for the mug???

We're going for 14 days, so I figure it will be worth it for us, even with say just a refill in the morning at breakfast and at night...Plus we are staying at AoA so there's the handy poolside station too for pool time too. But this $18 price has ruined the value a little haha! We will probably only get two mugs for our group of four anyway.

Wow, the Poly and Contemporary will be swamped with crowds of people popping in from the parks just to fill their mugs.

Everything changing over to rfid it is interesting. Seems resort guest will not be limited to refills after all.

I doubt it. The round trip walk from MK to the CR would take at least 15-20 minutes. I love my mug refills, but no way would I haul them to the park and mess with going in and out of the gates and waste time to save less than $3.

There is no way I would leave the park just to fill up my mug. If I was that thirst I would ask for free water at a QS location

For those that have always worried about vacationers using resort mugs over the course of multiple trips, you MAY not need to worry anymore.

There are some "very credible" rumors going around about Disney embedding RFID chips within the refillable mugs. This would mean that WDW would have readers under each drink dispenser (where you place your cup) that would detect your drink. Guests not using the resort mug will get three refills in addition to their initial drink.

Additionally, Disney will introduce new pricing for the mugs.

One-Day - $8.99
Two-Day - $11.99
Three-Day - $14.99
4+ Days (length of stay only) - $17.99

Rumors indicate it will first roll out at the All-Stars as early as later this month Again, this is still a rumor.

I find this very funny. Only one day of my 9 day trip I am going to be ferociously thirsty so I should buy a refillable mug!

"$17.99 for length of stay (4+ days)" :scared1:

You can buy a lot of stuff to drink at Wal-Mart or Target for that price.

Will dtd be included in this also. And I agree with most that the larger resort's need to add more soda stations in order to get your money's worth out of this. So now I guess ill need to carry this mug everywhere I go and chain it to my mother's scooter.:lmao:

Nope. Remember, this is just for the WDW Resort Hotels. That said, I'm hearing some rumors that this might be the first step towards a WDW-wide refillable mug program (like Universal does); that would be something that I would definitely invest in.
