The year that we stayed at WL there was a photopass photographer in the lobby to take pictures. Is this available at POFQ or is this just a deluxe resort thing?

Just selected resorts. They sell a family PhotoPass package at certain resorts where you get a personal session with multiple portraits/etc around the resort.

They did some tests for this at POR/POFQ a few years ago and the photographers really liked the range of image options they found, but I've not heard any more about it since then.

I also forgot to mention the ME express ride in from MCO. I think the driver was new, because he spend the first 10 minutes trying to figure out how to turn on the DVD player, and almost hit a guardrail while trying. He then dropped us off at Bell services instead of the front door, so we had to lug our bags and sick DD into the lobby without a cart. Its not that far, but under the circumstances it was not pleasant.

From that point on, the trip was great, but it was a horrible start.

Sorry to hear about the bad start to your trip, but I think the DME bus always stops at the bell service area, not the front door. They do the same thing at CSR. I go to WDW several times a year and the DME buses have always stopped at the bell service area (not the front door) at both POFQ and CSR.:confused3 When you are getting ready to go back to the airport, you'll also be picking up the DME bus at the bell services area at both of those resorts. That's just where they stop.

It's been over 2 years since my one and only stay at POFQ and it was during January. Over the course of our 9 day stay, we shared the bus with POR twice. A lot of posts I've come across asking about whether or not the resorts share buses seem to get answered with that they "always" share now.

I figured I'd come to this thread and ask the real experts. :goodvibes Is this the case?

Thank you

I think it just depends on how busy they are. We were down there Feb 4th-11th, so not a busy time. We also always left the resort early in the mornings to make rope drop or character breakfasts. We shared every single trip with PORS, except twice when we were going to MK. At MK POFQ and PORS each had their own bus stop, but at all the other parks and at DTD they shared.

Hi POFQ experts... we will be heading over with my wife, DS (3.5) and DD (2) on April 30-May 7 and we need to nail down our sleeping arrangements as we all usually sleep on a King + a Double bed side by side. Are the two Queen beds bolted to the floor in POFQ or can we push them together/against the wall?

Would anyone also know the answer to this same question for the Lowes Royal Pacific (where we will spend 3 nights as well)? Super excited for our upcoming trip and first time at POFQ!

I'm fairly certain that none of the beds at any Disney resort are able to be moved. If you call the Disney Reservation Center (the standard Disney number), you can put in a request for bedrails for the kids.

With the queen size beds now, is there still room for a rollaway bed in the POFQ rooms? I think it was pretty snug with the double beds and I'm afraid it is going to be a problem now.

True? No more 4 cup, basket type coffee makers?
Would like to know before our trip, since we won't be using the supplied coffee, but bringing our own.

We were there 3/24 thru 3/31, two weeks before easter. It felt busy all over. Rope drop and late evening buses were pofq only. Buses 11am to 4ish that we rode shared with por. This is true of either direction. Less of an issue coming back to resort as pofq is first off. But when trying to get to a dinner ADR on time was a challenge with all the POR stops! Allow more than one hour!

Does any one know if there are dvd players in the new rooms at POFQ? Thank you!

No, there aren't DVD players, sorry. There are connections to allow you to plug your own player (or a laptop) into the TV though.

Following the refurbishments, there are no longer any rollaway beds available at Port Orleans. You could squeeze a single-size air mattress in though.

There is a gradual switch over to Cuisinart dual pod machines happening, not sure how many rooms have been done so far though. You could always request one at the front desk I guess.

On our last trip to WDW we stayed at AKL and ordered a case of water from Costco and it was held for us at Bell Services. Is this an option at POFQ? Since we are going in July I would like to order another case but am not familiar with how it would work there or what address I should send it to. Does anyone have any info?

Thanks,
Kathy

Oh yeah, the package with discount coupons and luggage tags didn't come to us in the mail at home. It was delivered to our room at the end of day 3. Unfortunately most of the coupons were for DTD and we just returned from there.

really?? don't understand how this could happen!

thanks! I guess I could call the week before we go to find out if ALL of the rooms have been switched or not. I just want to know bc we will be bringing our own coffee if it's the old basket type.

Stayed at French Quarter New Orleans for the first time on our last trip. Has always stayed at Coronado Springs before that (4 years in a row, 4 times). My issue with Coronado was that it is way to big. My last trip I was put in a room way in the back and it took at least 20 mins for me to walk there. They didn't accomodate any of our requests (we were staying with some people with mobility issues and wanted to be near them and cound not have been further away). Plus, it happened to rain non-stop that week and they were very rude about giving our family rides on their golf carts (my husband joined our vacation late and they made him walk 20 mins in the rain rather than giving him a ride to his room with his bags).

Anyway.....POFQ was so delightful in comparison. It is so much smaller that there is not a bad location to have a room. Everything is close to the lobby/bus stops. The food was great, the cast members were friendly, housekeeping was out of this world and it is soooooooo quiet and mellow and understated. I'll never stay at another place again. The boat ride is very romantic and a geat way to get around, too. Love it! :woohoo:

Does anyone know if the courtyard refurbishment is done yet? Thanks~

It should have been finished for a while now - unless anyone knows otherwise? Has anyone who has been there over the past month or so got any photos of the finished courtyard? (the area with the palm trees, right behind the lobby - between the shop and the food court)

We were there last week and had the 2-cup pod coffeemakers in our room.

Thanks for the info - mind if I pinch that photo and use it on portorleans.org?

Now I've seen it finished, I'm not sure whether I like the new borders surrounding the trees... it kinda loses that original "city street sidewalk" theming of having those simple iron gratings directly around the trunks.

No problem! And I'll add a quick mini review:

This was our first stay at POFQ. As you can see from my signature, of the moderates, I've stayed at CSR many times and CBR once. We're a family of five and have been staying in deluxe resorts exclusively for the past eight years. But since our entire family wasn't along for this trip, we fit into a POFQ room and those peak season Easter rates led me to start exploring moderate options again. We switched to YC when the AP discount kicked in, but enjoyed our time at POFQ too! A few thoughts:

Rooms: The renovated rooms are quite nice. I wish they had the down comforters, like in the new CSR rooms, but everything else was great. I'll admit I really missed the interior corridors and the balcony that we enjoy when staying deluxe. But the rooms are very well done for a moderate!

Grounds: Wow - very nice! Excellent theming. Funny thing is that if you asked whether I prefer a beach theme (CBR) a southwest theme (CSR) or a New Orleans theme (POFQ), I'd rank the New Orleans theme last. I've always thought resort choice was about theme preference, but that was not the case here - while the New Orleans theme appeals least to me, I liked the grounds at POFQ the best of the moderates I've stayed in so far. I'm not sure how to explain it, but that was the result!

Size: You can't beat the small size of POFQ. Just can't. No other moderate offers that and it was wonderful. We were in a GV room in building 3 and loved that location. We were back in our room just moments after the bus dropped us off, and both Sassagoula Float Works and Jackson Square Gifts were so close and convenient. This was particularly important because I was traveling stroller-free with a 5-year-old who I often carried back to the room from the bus stop!

Pool: The slide was perfect for our 5-year-old and he really enjoyed it. The pool was very crowded when we were there, but that's to be expected during Spring Break!

Bus: I'll admit this was an adjustment for me. Taking the bus everywhere made it more difficult to take an afternoon break. In the morning, the bus was great - picked us up at POFQ and headed straight to the park. In the afternoon, after the break, we went through all four POR stops before heading to the park. That took a while. But bus transportation is bus transportation - it's no worse than other moderates and I think it's better than CBR.

So I think I'd rate POFQ as my favorite moderate. I had read some reviews suggesting POFQ is similar to a deluxe, but I felt like it fell securely into the moderate category. I say that only because I think realistic expectations are important before any resort stay. But for a moderate at moderate rates, POFQ was a great choice.
