So I got this call, the woman on the phone asked me if someone would be home to sign a certified letter. Well needless to say, immediately I thought, 'Holy cow! We actually won!'. :faint: I realized the woman was still talking and I'd better listen. 'This is the second time we've tried to contact you, if you fail to respond and settle this you can expect to make a court appearance.' WHHHAAATTT?!! Then terror set in! :scared1:'Here is the phone number and your case worker, please call and get this matter settled.' WWWHHHAAAT!!? (good feeling gone!)

I hang up the phone, sitting scared as I could be. Terrified someone is coming to my home and I have to sign this letter!? I fight back the tears and google the phone number she gave me. Here it's a scam! They want you to call in and give your SSN along with other personal information. :furious:

Even after I discovered this, I still sat there and waited for my DH to come home. Scared still someone would show up at my house!

Now IF we would win this contest, I'm probably not going to believe it! Stupid scammers have got me scared to answer the phone!

Where's all the new winners for the week??

I keep logging in to see if the number has changed to 17 yet!

Congrats! We got our itinerary yesterday, also, and got first choice on everything which means we are staying at the Grand Californian. You are right, a once in a lifetime opportunity because we'd never be able to do it otherwise.

Right?!?

I think it's safe to say that staying in a hotel like the GCH (or any of the resort hotels, really) will be a once in a lifetime thing for us. Vacations for our family of four require much penny-pinching. :)

I see all these signatures with the times and places that people have stayed when they go to DL or WDW and I think "hey, maybe I should throw something down there..." And then I remember that my overnight accommodations would read things like: "stayed and aunts house, stayed with brother, Ramada Inn, Super 8, Quality Inn..." :lmao:

Seriously, my kids are going to think we won the lottery (well, I guess we kinda did) when they see the hotel we are staying in. When my husband had to go down to Oregon to take the OPLS test, we went with him. His company put us up in a La Quinta and the kids thought THAT was the shiz! Kept telling us how fancy they thought it was. ;)

How awesome for you guys that you can enjoy the GCH! Do your kids know you're going yet?

Yes, I totally understand. We are fortunate to live an hour from WDW and have annual passes so we are able to go for a day or 2 here and there. But, over the years, the Disney properties have gotten so expensive (even the cheap ones) that we always end up staying off property somewhere. I remember when we could go to Disney and stay at one of the All Star hotels for $60/night; those days are long gone! My husband is a teacher so there's no way we can afford nice trips far away on his salary!

My son, who is 8, thinks any hotel is nice. We saw a commercial for a Best Western the other day and he was like "wow, that is a nice hotel. Can we stay there some day?" :) He is totally psyched to be going to the Grand Californian; he went on line last night after we got our itinerary and was looking at everything and planning everything out. He knows which section he wants to stay in, where he wants to eat and what pool he wants to swim in. It's so funny; it really is like winning the lottery to him! Plus, he already has our gift cards spent; he was researching all the shoppinng around DL, too!

Post them proudly! If I had family that lived close to DL or WDW I would gladly post "camped out in brother's back yard" if I had to. :lmao: When we first started going to WDW we stayed at this place called Wilson's World in Kissimmee. It was clean and safe but more like a Ramada or chain hotel. I don't care where I stay as long as I get to go. :woohoo: I just hope we don't get spoiled staying at a deluxe! We stay cheap so we can go every year. Now that we always stay on property Pop suits us just fine! My kids love it. Just hoping that dosen't change after they get a chance to stay at the Grand Flordian.

At least we have a few days left,At least have a few more chances!

Fortunately for us, the Costco travel packages to Disneyland are usually very well priced, if you hit the right fare sale, so we were actually planning on staying at the DLH for our October trip (the one we were planning before we won). Generally, the GC is $400-500 more, so at some point in our lives, when the little one starts kindergarten, and I go back to work, we should be able to stay at the GC. I think my kids will love the DLH, and probably never want to stay off property again (mommy & daddy may feel that way too). I was hoping for one of those GC rooms with the king bed and bunk beds for the kids. I guess will suffer with 2 queen size beds at the DLH instead ;).

I need this sweepstakes to be over. I laugh at the stories I read here about people chasing after the FedEx truck, and now I have just done it. :rotfl: I was walking the dog this morning and as I approached the end of our street, I saw a FedEx truck coming down the main road. I waited a minute and it turned into my development. Down the hill it went toward my house! I walked the dog very quickly so I could see down the street to see if it stopped at my house. No luck. It went to the cul-de-sac. But, look, there it is again coming back toward my house! ...and driving right by... I'm pathetic. :rotfl2:

I think the DLH looks great. I have pool envy, I am a little jealous of your pool. It looks so cool. We never stay off site anymore. Once we stayed on property we were hooked. At some point we might give a deluxe a try again but I am just too cheap to pay for it at this point. We are never in the hotel so I like to use the money we saved to do other things or add more days. However, I think if my husband and I did a solo trip I would probably fork out for a deluxe. When we stayed at SSR in a 1 br villa a few years ago, which I loved, my husbands comment when we left was that it was too quiet for him. He missed all the action at Pop. :confused3 He is a party animal what can I say. :goodvibes

I am jealous of the pool at DLH; I was kind of looking forward to sliding on the monorail slides since I assumed that we would never get the GC. I agree with saving the money on a room since you are never in it; seriously... your out all day so who has time to really enjoy a $400/night room? SSR was by far my favorite hotel (we had the one bedroom also); I don't like the Pop Century and All Star hotels for the reason that they are loud and always crowded!

I don't watch for the Fedex truck but I do always check my phone if get goes off.

There were alot of nice things about SSR but the best thing was going home with a ton of clean laundry. Having a washer and dryer in the room was AWESOME!!!! Best part hands down, well that and the giant soaking tub. :thumbsup2

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I woke up this morning and checked my email, and in my spam folder was a letter from fedex stating that i had a package that needed to be picked up! I got so excited thinking i had finally won a trip! I called the local fedex office and he instructed me to call the 800 number, when i did i was informed that this was a scam and not to open the attachment because it was a virus!!!! def NOT the information i was hoping for :sad2: So just be careful opening any spam emails from fedex!

Do you know approximately when the Costco deals will come out for November-ish for Disneyland? It's going to be our first trip heading out there, and I have NO idea when I should be looking to take advantage of the best offer.

I hate scammers. :( Especially during a time like this when you're hoping to win a sweepstakes! It's like they know exactly to hit you.

Anyways, I was thinking about whether Disney will do anymore contests this year, I mean $360K worth of prizes is a lot. Does anyone think they'll be done with contests this year?

To those of you GCH guests with DLH pool envy, one of the benefits of staying on property, is that you can use the amenities of ANY of the 3 hotels... so, while I am using your entrance to CA, you can come over and use my pool!

I don't know when they update it. They just had a package for the DLR hotels running thru May, but it looks like they are running a little promo thru the end of March for each of the hotels. When we started pre-planning our trip last August, they had awesome packages (and I think going thru November 2011). We used it as a baseline for what we might pay the following year.

I can tell you what I have learned about packages thru WDTC, Costco and AAA. Don't go with AAA. They are the most expensive, with the least add-ons. WDTC and Costco packages are generally the same price, but with Costco you get a character meal included, and often a $20 gift card (not much, but better than a kick in the pants). You also get the lanyard/pin for each person in your party. The pin makes a good trader.

Last fall, the deal Costco had was a pkg the same price as WDTC, but instead of 1 character meal, you got 2. Those are the things you need to keep an eye out for.

For everybody staying at the DLH, you are going to love it... We went to DL on Dec 11-12 & I just HAD to walk over to DLH to check out all the renovations I'd read about & seen online. (we stayed there last in '09). The pool area is really amazing, and the rooms, lobby, etc, are all so new and beautiful. We actually decided to eat dinner there at the new Tongaroa Terrace.. we ate outside at TT, poolside, underneath tiki-torch light with the tropical music playing & on top of that, we were the ONLY ones eating out there! It was SO amazing & relaxing (didn't feel like Disneyland, lol!). One of my favorite memories of our trip & we weren't even staying there.
