Pop Warner...I'm scared!!

So we just booked our trip for Nov. 29-Dec 9 of this year at POFQ. I completely forgot about Pop Warner and the TA didn't mention it. Should I be concerned about our choice of resort? We stayed at Pop last December and loved it, but wanted to upgrade a bit this year. It's not in the budget to go deluxe so we'd go back to Pop if POFQ is problematic. Is the overflow still POR or has it been moved to CBR...I keep reading different things. Does anyone know the definite resort choices for PW for 2011? Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You can tell I'm a newbie...these acroymns are driving me nuts. I don't have a clue of what you just said. :)

I don't know which resorts for this year, but based on previous years, the overflow will still go to POR. If it's any help, DH and I were at FQ last Dec. during PW and it was fine. If there were any kids there, we were unaware of it. Now, the two partying families next door is another matter...:rolleyes1

You should be fine at FQ. It is our favorite mod resort by far! If you change to Pop, you'll be in the thick of it I think. Good luck!:flower3:

We spent our travel day at POR during Pop Warner, maybe we hit a bad year, but it was a terrible experience. It was so bad, even one of the mothers of an attendee was at the front desk the next morning complaining. Kids running around the buildings late at night, and the pool was beyond packed. The parks didn't seem affected at all, just the resort. I had read somewhere that three teams were kicked out in the middle of the night for fighting. I am new and can't post the link, but google "Pop Warner teams expelled from Disney", you will find it.

I am by no means saying all kids involved in the Pop Warner event at Disney cause trouble, but our experience prevents us from ever being there at that time again. Just an opinion.

Welcome to the Boards Disbiz

POFQ stands for Port Orleans French Quarter, POR is Port Orleans Riverside, TA is Travel Agent, CBR is Caribbean Beach Resort and PW is Pop Warner :goodvibes

There is a list available on the DISboards with all the acroymns for you. I just forgot where it is. After awhile, though, you'll get used to them.

We're going 12/1-12/10 at CBR (Caribbean Beach) during Pop Warner week. From what I've heard on the other forums, it's not that bad.

We were there during PW in 2009. Our friends stayed at POR while we were at CSR. It ended up being pretty bad for our friends at POR some days. Pool, Food Court..etc...It sounded pretty unruly! There was nothing at CSR, very quiet week, we hardly noticed the PW kids at the parks either.

As long at you are not staying at a resort where they are all staying it will be no different...in fact it was a very slow week overall crowd-wise. We loved it.

For the most part, Pop Warner week uses some of the value resorts (mostly All Star Sports from what I was told on here and from a CM aka Cast Member) and can flow into POR if needed. The rest of the moderate resorts and deluxes are not used.

I don't know about POR because of the renovations. One or possibly more than one buildings will be shut down at a time for the renovations, which decreases their availability to begin with. If they get booked up due to Pop Warner, it leaves little for the public. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if CBR or CSR is offered. I doubt they would allow POFQ as one of their choices because it is so small to begin with, and it would also eat up the POFQ availability to the public if it was booked up by Pop Warner. I suppose you could try calling the reservation center to see if there's a chance they know anything. Or maybe googling to find the Pop Warner web sit to see if it says anything?

Thanks for all the info! That does make sense regarding the renovations to POR, and I would think one of the larger resorts would be a better choice as a back-up versus POFQ. Maybe the lone website I saw stating CBR was correct. If so, yeah for us, lol. If anyone else has any info or experiences please share!

They don't usually release the information until about three weeks before, because they don't know how many teams will be participating, depending on who won their division.

There will always be a choice of one value and one moderate.

The last few years it has been POR, but I would also bet with the refurbishment, they won't take chances. They can almost fill that resort to capacity themselves; with the deals they get, many families can afford to upgrade to the moderate choice.

One year, that I happened to be there by accident, they had already moved me over to CSR; I insisted on staying since I consider POR my home resort.

And boy, was I sorry. By Tuesday, I took them up on their offer - too late, by then, anyone who could get out of POR had already taken them up on it and I was out of luck. :scared1:

Saw a few groups from Pop Warner in 2009 when we went and overall they were well behaved. Maybe we got lucky but had absolutely no problems with loud kids or anything that I would consider problematic. Going this year during pop warner week (dec 3-11) and have no concerns staying in any of the value resorts. (Staying at ASMu Family Suite).

For what it's worth, someone posted last week that a Cast Member told them that they doubted that POFQ would be used as overflow for Pop Warner this year because it has been updated with queen sized beds, making it more upscale than some moderates. Of course, we all know that Cast Members can be less than reliable with some information.

This CM was full of it. If POFQ isn't going to be used, it's because it's the smallest moderate and this is a large convention. Once the POR refurb is done, and they're already done with one building, all of the mods except CBR will have queen beds so that doesn't even make sense. Resorts in the same category are comparable, not "more upscale" than other ones :rolleyes1

I was at POR during PW in 2009. I didn't know they were there until one night I went to do my laundry. I'm so glad my small kids were back at the room. There were atleast 30 boys running around the pool, yelling, screaming and CURSING. There was no adult chaparones at the pool. At one point, a man came to the pool and told then to quiet down (I'm guessing he could hear them from wherever his room was but he walked from around the building). They were quiet until he left - then it started back up. It was probably 10:30 pm or so when I left and they were still at it. I would imagine the people in the rooms right next to the pool were not pleased. As we were checking out the lobby was full of cheerleaders so I'm thinking we hit the very beginning of PW.

I've heard it's always All Star Sports and Port Orleans Riverside - so we're staying at Pop! I'm assuming (hoping!) overflow from values would go to music or movies.

Maybe upscale isn't the best choice of words, but CSR has always been a more "upscale" moderate, so why couldn't POFQ become one as well (though not necessarily for the same reasons)? Not all the deluxes are comparable - why should the mods be? I could see them putting a large, often disruptive, group in a resort that hasn't had recent upgrades yet, and if that applies to CBR, then they may very well be there.

we are going to be there nov 30th - dec6th and i'm a little worried about the mass amount of people too.. we are staying at pofq- i'm hoping there is no over flow there - and that the parks are not crazy busy :/

We are at POFQ for the entire week that Pop Warner is going on (Dec 3 - 10) and are keeping our fingers crossed.
