ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Checked in to the Poly this past Saturday. I had requested Tokelau, room 2913. I used the online check-in three days before departure.

To my utter amazement when we arrived via Disney Magic Express we were greeted by name and ask to follow them to the special on-line check in desk where Bailey was waiting with our check in packet. we were given room 2913 in Tokelau just as requested. We were all over joyed to have the Best GV room in the resort.

We were just about to walk away and I was asked why I requested that room... I told her that I had researched it here on the DIS board and found that 2913 had a good sideways porch view of the castle. She says to me " Would you like a castle view?" And after I said yes, she bumped us to Tuvalu third floor.... full Castle view, unobstructed, right on the water!!!:banana::banana:

I had no idea what I was getting since this is our first time to stay at the Poly...until I walked into the room and opened the sliding glass door. Wow.. Just incredible.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

I'll post pics when I get back home.

We ate at O'hana that night and it was just amazing. The food was great.

Poly is a fantastic place to stay and the girls love it. Quiet pool is or hang out and we have been virtually alone there each day from 10 am till 1pm. Wierd for July.

I checked with Front Desk and was advised that the resort was at 60% capacity. I checked again today, 7/13 cause it seemed more crowded and was told that the resort was at 72% and going up each day. the weekend is supposed to be real busy... they are calling in all cast members and we were told they are expecting record crowdes all next week. Even giving folks 30% off coupons if they will eat off property.

This coming to you live from the Poly... more later!!

Thank you for sharing, this is amazing! :yay: Have a great time! Post a pic of your view when you get a chance pls!

The ride home wasn't bad-if you don't mind riding the bus. We got in line about 11:15 and waited about 5 mins for the bus. We were dropped off first, before the folks at The Grand. Yes, the bus was crowded. I would definitely recommend not waiting until EMH closing. Tonight they closed at midnight so we had a little bit of time to spare. Like I said, not bad for a bus ride on the first night of implementation. They had it signed very well, but I had to laugh at those oblivious folks that were trying to walk up the monorail ramps, practically stepping over the signs that said it was not running :).

Glad to hear it stops at the Poly first!!

LOVE live updates - Thank you! Congratulations on an awesome upgrade!! Enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Ok I just read some poor reviews on Allears about the Club lounge at the Poly.

I may be staying there in December. Anyone have a recent review of the lounge? Hope it's as good as ever!:goodvibes

Hi Everybody! We just booked a visit to the Poly for mid-September. I'm expecting a baby in November, so we decided to make a last trip as a threesome (with our 4-yo DD). We stayed at the Poly a few years ago for a very short stay, so I didn't feel like we really got to take advantage of all that it has to offer!

We are booked in a lagoon view room. Being that I will be 7 months pregnant, I would like to minimize walking as much as possible (knowing how much walking I'll be doing in the parks). Any advice on room requests? We had a first floor Lagoon view in Tuvalu for our last stay and loved it! Any other thoughts or words of wisdom from the Poly experts? :teacher:

Also, any advice on must-see activities while we're there? I'm going to *try* to make this a more relaxed vacation and not push ourselves too much in the parks. :rotfl2:

Thanks!!

We were there the end of June. I didn't have any complaints. The food was the same as always and they didn't run out of anything the days I was there for evening appetizers. The place was kept clean and they had a cm going around busing tables for the guests who were to lazy to clean up after themselves. It was never to crowded to get a table. Didn't see any adults in wet bathing suits or sleep wear either. One morning my mother asked a cm if they ever put out the Hawaiian bread, which they don't, and the cm ran down to the bakery and got some for her. She asked what day we checked out and made sure to have a box for my mother every morning, all she had to do was ask for it. My BIL needed a particular type of yogurt for a medical condition and they also kept that in the back for him, no charge.

I am here right now. I don't have any complaints. All club level staff has been wonderful. My room requests were granted, and the in room celebration that I ordered through the Disney Florist was exactly as I planned it. Our room was clean upon arrival, and mousekeeping has done a great job everyday since. We have received three towel animals. The lounge has been clean and everyone has been pleasant and mostly well mannered. The food fresh and abundant. I would not hesitate to recommend the Poly CL to friends. We are looking at a trip to the "real" Hawaii next summer, but will look at the Poly CL in the future.

This is all great to hear. I was one of those who had been reading some poor CL/Poly reviews and was nervous about booking. I'll be checking-in two weeks from tomorrow so I will definitely post a live TR.

I am really looking forward to staying at the Polynesian!

We are going back to the Poly the week of Sept 19th, our last visit was in 2002 ...we are so excited! :)

In 2005 we stayed at the CBR for the first time after many times staying at the Poly and it was not the same....not magical according to my daughters.

It will be me, my DH, my recently married DD and the baby DD ....celebrating the baby DDs graduation from LSU! :yay:
