I finally got my best friend to agree to go on a trip to Disney. She has never been and I know she has been dying to go since we were kids. So when I was there last week I booked a bounce back for us. No her boyfriend has started this was his comment and I quote " I don't understand how you spend every single vacation day you have, at the same place... when that place is pretty much a glorafied great-adventure."

How can anyone compare the 2. There NO comparsion at all. If he tries to talk her out of this trip there will be no hope for him.

I hate people that say that. I dont judge your vacations dont you dare judge mine! I hate sitting on a beach its not my thing. Disney is my thing LEAVE ME ALONE! MY blood is boiling right NOW!

Is he her boyfriend or her keeper?

She's an adult, right? Sounds like he has control issues.

Oh, and he doesn't get WDW, either...

Honestly, I don't understand the big deal. He doesn't like Disney, he's not the only one. Why is it so bad that he doesn't like it?

WDW is not special to everyone. I work with a lot of people who think I'm nuts to keep going back, but it doesn't bother me. Not everyone has to love WDW like we do. Some of us choose to vacation there ever year, some a little more, a little less or not at all. Hey, if everyone vacationed in WDW, can you imagine what the crowd calendars would look like???:scared1:

Has he ever been to WDW? I wouldn't worry too much:thumbsup2

Not everyone likes WDW....(don't ask me why :confused3) But I understand your irritation. I hate when people try to rain on my parade.

But don't let him ruin your trip! And I'm sure he won't :cool1:

Well said. Disney isn't for everyone, just like a beach isn't for me. To the OP don't let your blood boil over it. Just enjoy your upcoming vacation, even if your friend cancels. There is always someone else to go with, or I hear solo trips are fun too. I have never done a complete solo trip BUt I di do 2 days prior to my friend joining once. I had a great time.

People have said the same thing to me. A majority of my vacation time the past 4 years, have been to Disney or Disney related places (DCL), but I wouldn't change it for anything!

Some people just don't get it and never will. They just can't give themselves up to the magic, and don't understand how those of us who can get such a renewed charge of energy for returniing to our regular life routine by visiting Disney whenever we have the opportunity to.

Don't let it get under your skin. If your friend is willing, go and enjoy and don't worry about the negative. There's a good chance with that attitude that he won't remain her boyfriend forever, anyway. :rotfl:

I am posting this because I think it has relavance...
My father is a widower. He was married to my mom for 37 years and for many years, Disney was our vacation. We are "Disney people". I have passed on the love of WDW to my husband and kids. Since my father has started dating, he has met a variety of women...some nice, some not so much. Some like my kids, some don't. His most recent woman, I asked him to find out if she had ever been to WDW and what her thoughts were. This woman had only been once and found it "magical". To me, that makes her acceptable because a person who believes that "it all began with a mouse" is a person who believes in many things. I am just saying that "Disney people" have a different outlook on life that I tend to enjoy. Just putting it out there...

Same here!! Co-workers harass me about it all the time. I no longer care,,it's the best kept secret ;)

Yep, not everyone gets it....for us we get to stay in great resort, eat at some good/great restaurants and are surrounded by so many things to see and do! :thumbsup2
Love Florida but not a big ocean guy, too many "things" in there. :sad2:
so WDW is a great vacation. :earboy2:

I'd be annoyed too, but it's not worth getting that upset over. :confused3. Some people just aren't lucky enough to *get* disney. :wizard:

We don't have kids and are in our late 20s/early 30s (I'm 27, he's 33 and turning 34 during our upcoming trip). We were originally going to Hawaii (which would have been a lot cheaper because we had a free place to stay and free tickets with airline miles), but cancelled for disney. Try explaining THAT to people :rotfl: My SO wanted stuff "to do" that didn't involve sitting on a beach...and I love disney vacations like crazy so it was a no brainer.

It's been way too long since I've been (7+ years!) to wdw, and my SO has never been (well, he went to disneyland once as a kid, but he's never been to disney world).

My family gets it and is excited for us. I talk about my trip "to Florida" with coworkers as if disney is an after-thought , I know at least one co-worker isn't a huge disney fan and is sort of an elitist about travel destinations. My SO's parents are a little confused by us going, I think. His brothers/sisters/nieces/nephews don't even know we're going. I think we'll send postcards to fill them in, lol.

We haven't even left yet and all of a sudden I'm planning my next 2-3 trips to disney world, and am seriously considering having our wedding at Aulani.

I'm rambling, but my point is....it's his loss!

I'd probably quip back along the lines of "Well, I don't know how (friend's name) spends EVERY single day she has with you...when you are pretty much a glorified nimrod." But then again, that's just the mood I'm in at the moment.

On a normal day, I wouldn't let it bother me. I understand that Disney isn't for everyone, but if someone asks, I try my best to explain why I love it so much. Don't worry about him. Just think about how much fun you and your friend are going to have!

Wow not sure where you got that from what the OP posted. The boyfriend never said she couldn't go he just asked a question. He is one of the people that just don't get Disney.

Honestly, I don't understand the big deal. He doesn't like Disney, he's not the only one. Why is it so bad that he doesn't like it?

The problem is for me is not that there are people that don't like Disney. The problem I have is people bashing it for no reason. I think this is what the OP was trying to get across.

I hate the snow but if you tell me your going skiing I'll tell you to have a good time and I'll mean it. If you invite me I'll politely decline.
We don't all have to vacation in the same way but I don't want people bashing the things I like to do.

I personally love people like this...I don't want them in my happy place! I hope your friend doesn't let him change her mind...you go have a wonderful time together! :)

For the people who think, "So he doesn't get it, big deal"... That's entirely not the point. There are loads of things I don't get. I don't get NASCAR. I don't get football. I don't get musicals, by and large.

But when someone is talking about going to one of those things, I don't take the opportunity to dump all over it. Especially when they are clearly excited.

Whoa....relax! Your blood is boiling because he disparaged Disney World? REALLY?

That ain't healthy, sister. ;)
