look alike from the back, so it's easy to lose family members in the rain. This past visit, I really had to make everyone walk close together when we put our ponchos on. We have a hard time sticking together anyway, especially DS9.

I've been trying to think of doing something for our next visit, like bringing red permanent markers or something and writing something on the hoods.

Anyone have any ideas?

I felt the same thing during a storm once at MK. Everyone looked the same had to check to make sure I was holding the right childrens hand. When we went to Toon Town my daughter had Mickey sign her rain coat with a permanent magic marker. Maybe if you have all the character sign his poncho , this would be cool.

Kmart has the same type of ponchos in various colors. I'm going to get a few for our next trip. I've seen them in red, blue, purple and green. They are only about $4 each.

This may be a stupid question... If we have to use them can they be refolded easily and compactly or should we buy some spares? I failed MAP FOLDING 101 so folding nicely is not my forte! I bought a couple of spares in case of tears but I want to be prepared! Thanks!

I don't know about anyone else, but unless you want to spend a lot of time getting them folded, I just try to straighten them out and "fold" them as best I can and squish them into a plastic bag and try to get the air out. I don't think they can ever be as small as they started.

Our Dollar Tree also has the ponchos, as mentioned by another poster...wondering if they are going to be too thin?!? I'll be taking a trip there today...I also got teeny umbrellas that will fit in our packs & Mickey Mouse keychains at our Dollar Tree.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I was debating whether to buy ponchos ahead because it's just something else to pack, but color coordinating the family for safety reasons really makes sense. Having never been to Disney, I didn't even think about all of the ponchos being the same. These boards are great! I'll be adding ponchos to my packing list now!

LOL, just returned from trip to Dollar Tree and they had every primary color of poncho that you could wish for (very important update~hee hee)!!!

In the past I have gotten inexpensive ($1-$2) lightweight clear ponchos from the camping section at Walmart. They come folded up very small, small enough to keep in a fanny pack and have with you all the time in case of sudden showers. They are strong enough to reuse a few times but cheap enough to toss if you don't feel like dealing with it.

Don't forget that if you buy a Disney poncho and it rips, you can have a free replacement from any of the stores! :D

thats a really good tip - I never thought of that - I was thinking about getting us wdw ponchos when we were there - no I am glad we didn't - we just had some cheapo walmart clear plastic things - now I am glad we went that route... I mean it was pretty easy seeing my little ones bright clothes under that

Hey what's that again about poncho ripping / free replacement? Does that include ponchos that are 3 yrs old, too? :)

I have to say that the WDW ponchos are pretty good stuff... a bit heavier vinyl than the really thin "Saran Wrap" jobs some places sell, but not so heavy that you feel like you're carrying a full sized slicker. We have used them at ballgames, picnics, soccer games, etc. THey lasted far better than the ones my dh picked up at a ballgame when he FORGOT the WDW ponchos! But alas, the neck holes on our trusty yellow WDW ponchos have at last begun to tear. I've just never found any I liked better (and my kids like that Mickey Mouse "Hey we fit in with the crowd!" kind of feeling).
Guess I'll have to budget for a few more next trip...

Walmart sells clear plastic ones 2 for $1. I've taken them to WDW, backpacked through Europe with them. I use them on all my vacations where I don't want to bother with an umbrella. The packs are so small you can buy a few per person to last a week if heaven forbid it rains every day and you do rip a few. Just take a two pack with you in your backpack for each person into the park for the day. Plus being clear you never lose your party. Not to mention you aren't spending silly amounts of money on the exact same peice of plastic.

All this poncho talk reminds me of the night I was at Epcot recently and a gentleman tapped me on the shoulder and said in a very deadpan voice: "I am sorry ma'am, you'll have to leave the park. You are not in uniform and your girl scout is showing". My poncho was orange and DD's was green. I have carried the same ponchos to WDW the last three trips and this was the first time we had used them. I would gladly show my girl scout training to be able to pick my kids out of the mass! Don't forget, once you get back to your room, to spread the ponchos out to dry. If you don't, the ponchos can get very moldy/mildewy (which is really nasty if you are allergic!). Once they are dry, they really do fold up pretty nicely, though never as small as originally. Heck, we've reused ponchos for years. Even have some of the old clear ones from early 80's. ;)

No matter how many there are I always seem to be able to pick out my DH no matter what!!!!

But last summer we were the family wandering around in Busch Gardens ponchos!!!!

Yea, we stuck out, but we were visible!!!
