We bring some evening snacks like granola bars and cookies.

It's our boy's (DS7 and DS3) first trip to the world but we've traveled a great deal, and we always stock up in the room. We simply choose the foods that they already eat well. Having a little something in the room is a lifesaver when one of them decides they can't possible live until our dinner reservation in one hour. :lmao: Anyway, we stock:

apples
bananas
goldfish crackers or something similiar
granola bars
cereal
some sweets like cookies or chocolate

If cooling is available:
milk
yogurt
snackable cheese
baby carrots and dip

I tried to find my list of food we brought with us but had no luck so I'll try and do it from memory.

You don't say if you will have a fridge available. We did so it did change what we could bring.

Bread
small cups of cereal already packaged
milk (we bought this at the resort)
granola bars
peanut butter and jelly
chips - several different kinds
fruit cups
bananas/grapes
lunchmeat - we brought ham and bologna
bagel bites (turned out to be a problem because the fridge didn't keep them frozen. So we ate them all at lunch on Day 2.) - we took them to the food court for microwaving there.
water
Diet Coke
Sunny D/apple juice
already cooked bacon - you can eat it cold or microwave in food court.
oatmeal in the little containers that you just add water and heat up. Used the microwave in food court to heat them.
cheese cubes and a few cheese slices

We also brought plates/plasticware, paper towels, paper cups.
We also drove so we put the perishables in a lunch bag with ice containers.

I feel like I'm forgetting something but don't remember what it could be right now.

We have 4 children and they need something to munch on as well between meals.

I ordered from the Garden Grocer...

Bread
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Crackers
Cookies/chips
Juice boxes/Water
Pop tarts/coffee cakes
Cereal/bowls & spoons.

Not all the best for diet/snacks but hey we are on vacation and reserve the right to splurge, LOL.

All those mentioned above worked really well. Bananas are particularly great because they are good for you, and taste better without a fridge.

When we have gone on vacation, but still eaten a lot in the room - I would spring for things that I wouldn't normally buy at home. Things are normally a little pricey so we don't want to get in the habit (Horizon's organic milk boxes, fave nuts, speciality cheeses). Or tempting food like chips or cookies. That way although we aren't "eating out" as much, we are still treating ourselves since we are on vacation.

I also like to bake banana bread and special muffins and wrap them up to bring, so once again it is a little more of a "treat." It makes it a whole lot easier to pass up all that is thrown at you when traveling, if you know what is free is still special.

Another great recipe that someone gave me that was a huge hit when we did our last Disney trip to pack was the trail mix taco. Here is the recipe:

Trail Mix Tacos (you could take these to the park)
flour tortillas (one for each sandwich)
peanut butter
honey
raisins
granola or granola cereal
1 small apple
1 banana
(like I mentioned you could pack the raisins and granola at home in a ziploc bag)

Spread peanut butter and honey in the middle of each tortilla. Sprinkle raisins and granola. Place equal amounts of apple and banana slices on tortilla. Fold over like a taco and enjoy.

Be careful, though - every time I've packed snacks to have in the room, we end up tossing most of them away when we are packing to go back on the plane. Bottled water, that's a handy thing to have, and a box of cookies or something, but unless I was traveling with someone who needed to eat every few hours for health reasons, I wouldn't pack much more than that.

That being said, I've been known to go down to the food court at 11pm to get a snack, and come back with ice cream, chips AND a pizza . . .

KC:hippie:

Are you driving or flying in? I just returned from the airport dropping my daughter off and a nice lady had her carry-on being inspected and she was made to throw away peanut butter and the fresh fruit she had in her stuff.

I always take things, but I pack them in my checked luggage. I wait until I am there to buy the fresh fruit-little more expensive but fresh and no bruises from the suitcase. I usually have an empty Capri Sun box and fill it with the microwavable pasta bowls (Chef Boyardee kind) and granola bars that my kids like (and me too). I take powdered drink packets (Crystal Lite on the go) so I can refill my plastic bottles of water with-and it also kills the taste of that bad water fountain stuff. They make individual peanut butter tubs-enough to spread on a sandwich- as well as jelly packs. Buying a loaf of bread might be more than a regular store at the resorts but hey-the money you save bringing it from home is more than worth it...

Hostess mini muffins.

Those individual cereal bowls where the Fruit Loops (or whatever) are packaged in their own plastic containers - just remove the lid and add milk.

Milk
Granola bars
One treat per person - oreos, peanuts, gummy bears, whatever
Pop
water bottles

There were times when I'd get PB&J, ham, bread, little bags of chips, individual cottage cheese, little cans of fruit to make lunch in the room, but those days are over. The money is no longer more important than the convenience at this point. It's very do-able if you're on a tight budget, though!!!

I also used to grab up a bunch of utensils from the food courts. Saved me like $5 on plastic utensils.

We always bring snacks for the room and the parks. We eat breakfast in the room and then have lunch and dinner in the parks. We bring snacks in to the parks as well to snack on while in line and hold us over before the next meal.

Some things we bring are:

apples
bananas (I always eat one on my way to the parks)
granola bars
goldfish
easy mac
dried fruit (love the craisins :lovestruc)
nuts
popcorn popcorn:: (for those late night snacks!)
individual snack packs of oreos, nutter butters, etc. (ususally try to get them on sale at Publix when they are buy one get one free)

I always bring ziploc baggies so I can divide up some of the snacks between the 3 kids. It makes it easier if everyone always has their own bag (no fighting over who is getting more!!) :confused3

Even though we are in the parks until they kick us out, it is nice to have something in the room when we get back just in case someone is hungry (saves on going to the food court so hungry and coming back $20 poorer!!

bottled waters
we always buy the refillable mugs so I can have my morning coffee :surfweb:(or else I am useless!) I always bring the styrofoam coffee cups to finish my last cup on the way to the parks!!

We drive so we are lucky enough to be able to bring a little more than those that fly. I would buy what your family likes and don't go too overboard!! Have fun!!

We drive & always do the DDP. We eat breakfast in our room each morning. I bring pop tarts, mini muffins, donut sticks, little powdered sugar or chocolate donuts, whatever pre-packaged breakfast-y things tickle our fancy before we go. My kids don't get this stuff at home so it still feels like a splurge to them. I also use a couple of snack credits for the big chocolate milks at the food court & split between my youngest 2 DDs (oldest doesn't like it). Usually 1 jug will last for 2 mornings. I always bring snacks for the road with a certain number held back for the drive home. Whatever was designated for the drive down but didn't get eaten then is fair game during our stay.

We try to do b-fast in the room and a few lunches "on the go". Instant oatmeal packs + coffee maker hot H2O = good healthy breakfast! Then you don't feel *quite* so bad about the junk you eat the rest of the day! PB Sandwich and a granola bar makes a great lunch that transports well. Cereal bars, cereal and snack crackers also come along for the trip We fill one suitcase with food and return with souvenirs in it!

We bring bottled water, prepackaged individual snack size bags of cookies, pretzels and crackers and for breakfast, muffins and pop tarts.

We love having food in the room to save some $$!!
We always bring bread and a couple kinds of sandwich meat (and cheese)...pb&j, cereal (we buy the milk when we get there), all types of snacks and drinks, fruit, and more. We do breakfast in the room every day, unless we have a meal scheduled (which might be one or two during the week for breakfast).
Also on days where we might take a mid day hotel break, we can eat in the room. We have noticed all the food courts have microwaves too so there's always the option of bringing other quickie foods that need heating (my son would eat spaghettio's all week if I let him, lol).

Just curious, do you know why she was made to throw out the peanut butter? I'm going on a plane trip (not to Disney) with my young son very soon, and had planned on bringing some pb sandwiches on the plane for him to snack on... I know some states (California, for example) don't allow fresh fruit to be brought in because of fruit flies...but I had never heard of an issue with pb.

The scanner cannot see through the jar-too dense. Jelly isn't so bad because it is less so. If you bring the sandwiches pre-made, shouldn't be a problem. (I fly out of the Atlanta airport and they are forever changing the way they do things.) I think it really depends on the person scanning as well-a lot of them are younger here and they don't understand the "neccesity" of saving money.

They make a premade "slice" of peanut butter-it's literally like a slice of cheese. Can't remember where I ordered them from, but if someone is flying down and wanted to take the peanut butter in a carry-on, that might be smarter.

we will be driving

Well, depending on where you stay, just make sure you have a fridge and a micro-sometime the food courts get crazy and the microwaves get yucky from less careful-minded people.

I love the oatmeal idea though.

I am a coffee snob :snooty: so I am also going to take my new bottle mug (it is see-thru so they don't give me any grief at the parks) and pack my pre-ground coffee and plenty of sugar. If I don't have at least 2 cups of good, strong coffee, I literally get headaches and pass out-which doesn't make my DH very fun, 'cause he gets so worried!

Have fun!

Are you staying off property? Will you have a car? Is it really worth it to go back to an offsite motel for lunch? We only went back to our room midday when we stayed onsite, as the time it took to get out of the park, to the car, drive to the motel offsite, and do it in reverse to get back to the park took up more time than we were willing to waste.

How about having breakfast in the room instead, and packing snacks for the park?

Just quick breakfast foods like pop tarts, sandwich crackers, fruit snacks and granola bars. Basically whatever fits in our duffels.
